Argumentative Essay: Year-Round School
I don’t want to have year round school because I can’t go camping, fishing, hiking and many other activities. I love summers and I think children should take a break. Camps may become extinct if school switch to year round school. Some families have shorter vacation but a lot more (Virginia tech). I go for a week in the Upper Peninsula and I love the camp grounds we go to. We do a lot more. With year round school I would miss out on many summer activities.

Year-round schools are good, and I do prefer them. There are reasons for this. One reason is because they have a better schedule than what we have now. Most year-round schools go for the 45-15 plan. This is when they go to school for 45 days,…

Students are best served in a traditional school system. Just imagine what it would be like to have to go to school in the middle of what would be a traditional year round summer vacation. That is a reality for thousands of kids across the United States. This is why I believe that the traditional school system is more beneficial than a year round system. Year round schools have disruptive schedules, the day amounts end up being the same in year round and traditional school and, year round schools cost more to maintain and run year round.…

Schools in surrounding districts shouldn’t be all year long and there are many reasons that could be troubling to students, parents and teachers. Money for instance, could be a major problem for some families, for example, electricity and more school supplies could be a hassle for some school districts. It could also be unhealthy for the students because towards the end of the year, they get tired and are not wanting to participate in the lessons anymore and they’d also get more stressed out during the whole year. From all the school work that we will have if we’re having school all year round, they won’t be able to go outside and be free like they are in the summer, instead they’ll have more homework to worry about, or they just won’t do it.…

There are many approaches that might interest you about year-round schools, but here are three that I find interesting. The first fact about year-round school is that they have short breaks every so often. In the article Year Round School vs. Traditional Schedules in Public Schools it states, “...many schools are getting rid of the traditional summer vacation, yet are simultaneously providing students with more frequent and consistent breaks from school.” Since the traditional summer vacation of around 3 months is no longer essential some experts are saying that the traditional schools are not what is best for today’s children. The second fact about year-round school is that they have schedules that may very slightly. In the article it states, “...the most popular schedule is what’s called a 45-15 plan…”. Which means that children go to school for 45 days and then have 15 days off. The last fact about year-round school is that many states and places have taken part in the year-round…

One of the major points for year round schooling is that students would learn more because they would be in the classroom more often. This however, has been proven to be false, as a 2007 Ohio State University study stated that students in year-round schools do not learn more than their peers in traditional nine-month schools (Long). Schools with a year-round system often use it in an attempt to eliminate the lose of knowledge that can occur over the summer months, but this can also happen to students in year-round schools, as some have breaks that last over a month. This can be more than enough time for students to forget what they have learned. While the year-round schooling is often incorporated to help accommodate more students in schools that struggle with overcrowding, the change ends up making both teachers and parents struggle more than they would in a normal schedule. Year-round schooling would mean that the teachers would have to constantly be at work teaching a class of students, all year round, with little to no breaks. Parents would also have to be running their children around a lot more, especially during the summer…

It may sound logical but Dr Von Hippel has debunked this myth after completing an experiment. He states, “Students in “year-round” schools don't learn more than their peers in traditional nine-month schools... A sociologist at Ohio State University found that, over a full year, math and reading test scores improved about the same amount for children in year-round schools as they did for students whose schools followed a traditional nine-month calendar.” There's no academic improvement and on top of that many people believe that year round school is longer than a normal school which is also false. They have the same amount of days as a traditional nine-month high school however Instead they have “tracks”. So track 1 could have school for 3 weeks then they would have vacation for 3 weeks while track 2 has 3 weeks of school after coming back from vacation. This also limits who is seen by who every day if two people’s schedules do not cross. Public students should be given what's best for them. If year-round has no academic improvement then why should summer be taken away? At least summer benefits students with nutrients from the…

    Year-Round School

First of all, people might assume that since the summer vacation is shorter, it cannot possibly be better than the summer vacation that they already have. However, there are multiple reasons why year-long school summer vacations are better than regular vacations. First off, students do not get as bored over the summer of year-round school. Speaking from personal experience, regular summer vacation can almost seem too long. When it gets close to the month of August, summer seems like it has drug on forever. Students start to get bored of summer, and they want the interaction with their peers, that they cannot always get over summer. They want to see their friends again, especially the ones that they did not get to see over the summer. With year-round school, this happens less. The summers are shorter, but it allows students to see their friends sooner. It also gives a faster relief of the boredom that many kids suffer after the long months of doing almost nothing at home. Another benefit provided by year-round school is that students do not forget all of their material over summer vacation. Again, summer is long, and students forget almost everything they learned the past year over the vacation. With a shorter summer, like the one provided by year-round school, students will be likely to forget less of the material they learned over the course of the school year. If students forget less of the material that they learned, then they can start at a more advanced spot when they return. If students start more advanced, they will ultimately be able to learn more throughout the course of the year, which further benefits their education. Overall, even summers can be improved by changing to a year-round school…

Students love their summers, but their brains don’t. Children tend to forget significant information over the three month break. Year-round schools offer a decent break, so students are refreshed and ready to go back to school. Three months might not sound so long, but it's all about perspective. Three months for a ten-year old is nine months for a thirty-year old. Could you take nine months off and work as well as before? I have some facts to support this reason. year round school would mess with the student's family's plans they had for during the summer. Schooling, if we had less vacation time it would mess with our imagination. Most importantly, year-round school would cause students to be exhausted. Even with the several shorter breaks, students would probably feel that they would be constantly working and stressed. Continuing to give students a longer break would allow them to rest and come back to school strong and ready for the upcoming year. A two or three month break is important to kids because they can be rewarded for a demanding school year. Summer allows children to balance work and play, which is important. Admittedly, some may argue that summer vacation causes children to forget everything, and this causes them to have to relearn and review forgotten concepts at the start of each new year. However, in my personal experience I have noticed that myself and others forget concepts just a few weeks into break, as opposed to a couple months into break. I have also noticed that after shorter vacations such as winter/spring break, kids come back needing a refresher of what they learned. Having to review concepts once a year is exhausting enough for both teachers and students. Imagine if this had to be done several times a year! It would defeat the purposes of having year-round school…

    Year Long School Year

Many schools in the United States are beginning to change their school calendar so their students attend class all year round. The changes still allow the students time off in the summer, but they do not have the three months of break most students in America receive traditionally. Instead, they get a break of a couple weeks in the summer, and the remainder of the time is divided up and put into other breaks throughout the year. All schools in America should switch to a year-round calendar to accommodate the different and higher level of learning needed to be successful in our changing world and society. The traditional school system was designed many years ago when our country was an agricultural nation. Therefore, the school calendar was developed having a long break in the summer so students could assist their family with cultivating crops and other aspects of farm life. The traditional school calendar was not a calendar for higher learning, and should be extended to meet the needs of modern day students. There are many explanations as to why the traditional school calendar should be changed.…

Ring Ring! there's go the alarm clock, Oh yeah! I have to go to school. Think about it, three months of not using anything that we learned during the school year and we are expected to effectively jump back from that. With year-round schooling, we can better transition to the next grade without having to recap what we learned in the previous year. This point can be proven in three basic concepts; First, less schooldays wasted, more days progressing and advancing. Secondly, year-round schooling will create less stress for students and teachers . Finally, information can be retained faster, save time for the teachers, and improve test grades.…
