If you have driven in Wisconsin, you may have noticed people walking their “ pet ’’ tiger. In some states people with a few thousand dollars can own a tiger or a lion as a “pet”. Occasionally, animals are offered free of charge. States such as Alabama, Idaho, Ohio, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, and Wisconsin it is legal.However, if you want to own a “ pet ’’lion in Illinois there is a permit required. Owning exotic animals can be a catastrophic event. In 2009, a young girl was strangled by a 12 foot long Burmese python. A Connecticut woman was mauled by a neighbor’s pet chimpanzee. Owners of these animals claim they rarely kill or maim. But, This still does not justify their actions. Furthermore, this can have a negative impact on the caretaker. …show more content…
In June of 2008, Kelly Ann Walz was killed by her “ pet ’’ black bear named “ Teddy ’’. In 2009, Sandra Herold contacted her friend Charla Nash to help get her pet chimpanzee Travis in his cage.
