Argumentative Essay On Student Diversity
On November 11, Jennifer announced there was an extra credit opportunity if we attended to “protest” about what was Missouri. I just planned to go for like half an hour, but I did not only stay for half an hour. I stayed for the whole thing. After the whole “protest” it was not only for extra credit, but an opportunity to raise our voice and be heard even if it is just with a few students. It would never occured to me that UIC students does care and diversity of the school does care also even though it is a diverse school how does that look like? Does diversity has it’s benefits? When I first arrived to outside of the Student Center East. I was bit confused because I did not see a large crowd like I expected to see. Then I noticed students just standing around so I approach them. Students were passing out flyers with demands on it. Another student was holding a sign saying “#studentblackout.” There were two students who were in charge of the “protest.” They both …show more content…
As we were protesting inside UIC campus there was a student/guy who was talking on the door. He started saying on the phone “there are black students here protesting about black stuffs.” The girl who was leading the chanting heard and start screaming “stop white supremacist” or something similar to that because the person who said that was a white person. He was just talking on the phone and start to say something back, but we did not listen since we start to walk away. Then we regroup again in the quad made a circle again and start to chant but also talk about the point of the protest and how we as students can make a difference. At the end it was surprising because we gather more people along the way and there was more people than in the beginning. Then one of the organizers said if we were interesting for any future events like this one to give him our email. I give him my

Diversity is to respect everyone's differences, regardless of race, nationality, age, religion, culture, gender, beliefs, ability and talent. Each person is an individual, and by respecting this people can be valued on their contributions, and not subject to negative response due to their differences. Respecting and embracing peoples differences will allow for a better working environment, and will make everyone feel more happy. Diversity is important in the work place, as staff are employed on there previous accomplishments and job skill, their personal differences do not effect the recruitment decision. Where I work we have different staff members from all round the world, with different culture's, beliefs and gender, yet we all work together as a team, and every is treats each other with respect.…

A group of African Americans started one of the earliest sit-ins that made an impact that lasted through today. Another big sit-in was when 4 men stayed at a lunch counter and refused to move. When 4 students that sat at the counter where only whites were served refused to give up their seats, and the police couldn’t fix the situation from the lack of provocation. They soon obtained the name “Greensboro Four” (www.history.com). The next day, more college kids joined them and made the scene huge. Eventually the police arrived and escorted them outside the building, and possibly to jail. The sit-ins spread to over 55 cities in 13 states (www.history.com). The increase of this event did not stop the police from taking action. Even though just about everyone was arrested for doing this, people still continued to bring support to the law change they want. The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) was formed as one of the top forces that organized the “Freedom Rides” (www.history.com). The sit-ins were not the last of the encouragement for rights, speeches were…

Two years of FREE community college! In theory, this sounds like a really good idea, and would give numerous people, who would otherwise not have the option to continue his education, the opportunity to get a good start on his college degree. President Obama has proposed a two year, free community college plan. in his speech given at Pellissippi State College in Knoxville, Tennessee, President Obama stated, a college education should be “as free and universal as high school is today” (Korte). High school is not free. Tax paying citizens pay for children to get a high school education. College should be more affordable for those who wish to pursue a higher education, but the President’s plan will not work; there are too many expenses that would not allow the nation to support every college student who attends a two year college. There are too many questions and concerns about offering two years of free higher education to everyone. College is not for everyone, and certainly will…

When I first started school at the very young age of six I remember stepping through the stone threshold and into a huge elementary school with diverse attributes like height, nationality, personality and race. It was amazing to see all the diverse people at the school including myself! I thought to myself that I wouldn’t fit into school with the other kindergarteners at first but I actually did because most of the kids in my class lived in my neighborhood. It felt so awesome to be in a diverse class with students that welcomed you with an open heart and even felt better to be getting an education than just sitting at home for five years and sleeping, eating, playing and drinking in a diaper. In the first few weeks of starting elementary school everything was good, I was happy to be away from home and socializing with new people and getting an education. After the…

Diversity has many faces that range from gender, culture, ethnicity, race, economic status, physical abilities, and many more, and this can be a problem that can affect many people who are employed or looking for employment in society because they are being judged or discriminated against for their differences. But if business took the time to understand the importance of differences in people so many doors could open for the employers and employees. Allowing diversity in the workplace could increase work morale, attendance, customers, and efficiency and create a less stressful environment for employees. This is possible by first increasing the diversity in the workplace and allowing for employees to learn about each other’s differences and…

After completing my first semester of college, I have found a special drive within myself to do more and more. I was fortunate enough to seek help from individuals who also see the diversity barrier as a problem and ask them to educate me on why this is a problem and how can we as individuals do our part. Being from a city like Los Angeles, where we can find an exhausting amount of different cultures, we would expect to have many different faces in multiple professions. Instead we see the minimal. I attended a conference at the UC Irvine School of Medicine that really opened my eyes to the problems of diversity in medicine. This is a conference that I will forever be grateful that I attended. Here I listened to speakers of similar background…

The world has dramatically revolutionized over the past centuries. Nowadays, people have different beliefs and traditions. As a result, the world is now full of human diversity in contrast to how it was before. Back in the 18th century, countries and continents were fully segregated. It was unusual to see a person with different nationality or cultural traits in a different country in comparison to the 21st century. Thus, in today’s society we have people of different races, countries, and religions. It’s a social change that has occurred worldwide due the increase of human migration into different countries. This social change, however, has caused a negative impact on the community itself; hence, being different has become a target for criticism. Seeing such diversity in our society makes it easy for one to judge others based on their religion, their nationality, and the color of their skin; however, people should not be judged by their physical appearance, their personal…
