Public Breastfeeding Breastfeeding is a natural way and the best way for a mother to feed her child. The question is, is it okay to breastfeed in public? Today the controversial idea of public breastfeeding is a personal idea of a way a woman should feed her child. Women shouldn’t be put down or ashamed about it, but they should be aware of their surroundings and respect others personal intake of the idea of breastfeeding in public. Statistics say that more than 32% of breastfeeding mothers say it was to embarrassing to breastfeed in public (“Barriers of Breastfeeding in the United States”). Some women have issues and concerns when it comes to breastfeeding. Mothers always worry about the negative attitudes when it comes to the choices of feeding her child. They also worry if they are eating right to give the child the nutrients it needs to survive. Families of women who breastfeed can be a negative or a positive influence on a woman. Women also realise that breastfeeding makes it difficult to return to work and it makes work scheduling harder, and separation between mother and child harder.
Back in the day, women were not bashed for breastfeeding in public because then women had respect for themselves and others not to expose themselves in public. Today, women are taking a stand to breastfeed however they want, covered up or not. Bottle feeding has become viewed as the normal way of feeding because today society makes everything that is natural is dirty. While researchers in the 1950s revealed the benefits of breastfeeding, formula commercials spread across America (“Breastfeeding”). Society looked at the more public appealing idea of bottle feeding than the over exposing of breastfeeding. If a woman is going to breastfeed in public, she should cover up or have a bottle at hand to feed her child.
