College Tuition College tuition continues to rise in the United States each year. The price of a higher education has nearly doubled in the last 15 years and is still rising. In 1995 the average annual cost of attending a public institution was just 8,000$. College affordability is declining. Basing college tuition on parental or individual income may be looked upon as unfair. However, it will result in a higher education rate, higher economical status for the U.S, and a better work force. Education, occupational status and income are the most widely used income indicators of socioeconomic statues. The research network on socioeconomic status and health give much information on this topic. Having a lower amount of people with a college education would bring the socioeconomic status of this country down, however with a higher education rate this status would go up. Increasing the number of Americans with a college degree would help our economy recover faster and also help the U.S. recover its competitive edge. J. Noah Brown, CEO of Community College Trustees, represents 1200 schools nation wide has pledged 12$ million dollars to community colleges to try and boost enrollment rates. With income based tuition this money would be able to be put towards things to make the education better instead of just getting people enrolled which in the long run would greatly boost our economy. Some may say that the Unites States economy is too far gone and has no chance in ever again being like it was. However, research by the national economy bureau shows that over 60% of Americans agree that the economy is getting better.
