Argumentative Essay: Is College Football To Dangerous?
Is college football to dangerous? Should it be removed from college sports? These are questions being asked today by many people ranging from doctors to people who have played the game. There are many people on both sides and while both have good points there is only one clear choice here. Football has and is going to stay a collegiate sport. There are many reasons why and not enough reasons on why not to play. This became a big name conversation when the NFL and former players got into a lawsuit over concussions and the effects on the players. Now it has trickled down to the collegiate level and some people are arguing that this sport is to dangerous now even though it has been played since 1892 and most of these athletes have played football since they can remember (Birth 2016).

College football puts millions of dollars into local economies on game days. In 2006 48 million fans attended games live which is double that of the NFL, NBA, or NHL (Baade 2007). This proves how much fans love college football. It also proves how many fans go out and are willing to spend money. It was thought that if the NFL lockout had occurred that the home city of the teams would have lost 160 million in local spending and 3,000 jobs (Distler 2012). One can only imagine what would occur if college football was removed forever. The other side does have legitimate reasons even if they do not outweigh the positives of college football. The first is that college is meant for academic purposes. While college is a great place for one to increase their knowledge I also see college as a place that helps people grow up and take that next step in life, whether that next step is getting an engineering based job or playing sports professionally. Both provide financially and both have time commitments so I do not see a difference. Personally I do not think it is fair for people to make college only academic
