Argumentative Essay
If you observe the difference between grammar school students and secondary school students, what do you see? In grammar school about eighty-five percent of the students are wearing uniforms where it’s required which is pretty good but in a uniform required secondary school at the maximum there’s probably one out of every fifty students complying with this particular rule. For some years now parents, local politicians, the school board, and about every high school student has been debating over something so small to the public but a major issue to the students. Wondering what the big issue is? Well, all the fuss is about school uniforms and if high school students should be required to wear them. Because of their low cost, business casual appearance, and means of reducing distraction of the learning process, As a high school graduate I feel school uniforms are excellent for the learning environment.
So, who wouldn’t want to wear their regular clothes to school everyday and show off all the name brand stuff they have? The answer is simple the less fortunate students in the public school system. The fact of the matter is uniforms are inexpensive and convenient for parents as well as students. The basic uniform consists of a polo style shirt and slacks or a polo style shirt and a pleated skirt which cost at the maximum about fifteen to twenty dollars. With this being said the less fortunate families as well as the other families can get as many school uniforms as needed. This can make living conditions better for some of these students because parents can save money. And because of easy access to school uniforms if damaged, they can easily be replaced. Now, who wouldn’t want to wear uniforms?
As parenting goes, I’m pretty sure parents want their kids to be active in today’s business world. Well, school uniforms can help encourage this by the business casual appearance these uniforms give. School uniforms can prepare students for the business world at an early age since they’re used in grammar school. Kids will definitely gain a certain level of confidence when encouraged to wear the uniforms. Because of every student wearing these uniforms they’ll learn to want to look different then others by adding certain accessories to their outfits or wanting the uniform to look a particular way so they can standout. This will encourage students to dress in this manner on a daily basis and make finding a job no problem in the future.
Due to not being taught at an early age some students tease other students about the way they look causing plenty of classroom distractions as well as mental and emotional abuse. As for distractions, this probably is why some kids skip school and maybe the reason for other negative decisions such as drug use, violence, etc... Because we all know kids can be cruel at times school uniforms can put all classroom distractions to a halt. This will make school a place students want to wake up in the morning and go to. If everyone just wore the same name brand or same style of clothing no one will be able to ridicule innocent kids whose parents sent them to school to learn like everybody else. With little class disturbances students will be able to obtain more from the learning process and school will become a fun place for students again.
Although it’s known that less fortunate kids are tormented on a daily basis by their fellow classmates, people against school uniforms feel the money used for uniforms could go into teacher salaries. As a supporter of this argument on school uniforms I feel like regular clothes cost a whole lot more than basic uniforms. And as for the increase on teacher salaries, if the teacher got into the educational field for the money then the educational field isn’t the place for him or her. The whole point of being a teacher is to see kids make it in life with guidance and assistance by educating them. This privilege to do so is priceless.
Because almost every public school is in some way lacking textbooks and things of that nature protesters of uniforms use this as a crutch as well. But as said before regular clothes costs a whole lot more than uniforms leaving plenty of extra money for textbooks and other necessities in the school system. Because school officials have been aware of lack of textbooks and other materials in the school system why haven’t they did anything to solve this problem? Why blame it on uniforms instead? The staffs at these needy schools play a role in helping to get learning material for the school as well. Solutions for this problem could be simple bake sales, car washes, or event little talent shows for low costs but still going towards what’s needed in the school.
As a product of the public school system I know the struggles of students are faced with everyday. I was thankful for uniforms as a child and wished I wore them in high school because of being faced with peer pressure to looking cool in name brand clothes. The fact that my mother is a single parent didn’t bother me at all because all I knew was I wanted to be “in”. Well, being “in” doesn’t pay the bills so my mother always had to find an extra part time job to satisfy the needs of myself and three other siblings which puts a lot of strain on her as well as plenty of other parents I’m sure. Now I’ve come to see uniforms don’t block freedom of expression or the fact of you being cool because with that uniform you can add your own sense of style to differ you from others and your definitely still in the “in” crowd. Uniforms build safe learning environments, kids who grow up to be mayors and senators; not criminals and poverty stricken families, uniforms encourage kids to do what they came to school to do and that’s learn” not to torment others. School uniforms are great and if people would just give them a chance they’ll feel the same way I do.

In the modern age of American society, schools are taking on this rising idea of having students wear school uniforms instead of regular clothes. Why should students sit miserably at their desks, listen to the dull sound of teachers, do school work, and on top of all that have to wear uncomfortable school uniforms? Other than reducing teasing and bullying, wearing uniforms do not have many benefits. In America’s schools, students should not be forced to wear uniforms because they take away a student’s sense of individuality, the uniforms do not allow for self-expression, and buying the uniforms absolutely do not save families any money.…

As stated before, uniforms, while normally being seen as a symbol of wealth and high-class, are commonly used in high-poverty areas. Though uniforms are not necessarily there for the parents’ benefits, there is no denying that uniforms do help parent to save money. School uniforms save money for parents in the way that their children only need one simple out for five out of seven days of the week. So the money not used buying the expensive clothes most children tend to want during school shopping can be used for bills or other necessities. This illustrates how parents benefit from school uniforms, but what of the…

Many Americans are oblivious to the controversy of school uniforms but it is, nonetheless, a highly debated issue among students and families. Private schools often enforce uniforms, which are standardized to indigo or khaki pants and collared shirts limited to the school colors. Many of the public schools in the United States that do not have a uniform policy, administer a dress code which the students often neglect and teachers fail to implement. Those in opposition to school uniforms argue that they remove individuality and violate the right of self-expression. However, schools should approbate uniforms as they offer many benefits for students and families.…

Uniforms have been common in public schools since 1994 and since then the dropout rate for schools that don’t have uniforms have increased. Students will be more comfortable with a dress code and still get to express themselves through fashion. In conclusion, school uniforms are not always beneficial. Children should have the right to appropriately dress for school. This right allows them to experiment with their creativity, imagination, and develop their personality. School should support diversity instead of equality by wearing the same outfit, because each and every student is different and unique. Diversity helps individuals to understand one another and helps spark interest. Clothing expresses a person’s rare personality and culture, it should be their right to show their peers their true…

A school uniform is a specific design for clothing designated to be worn while attending academic classes at a school. The school context comprises grades one through twelve of public and private schools in the United States. Different schools and different grades within schools may have different uniforms, as determined by parents and school administration. In today’s society all public schools should require student uniform. These generations of school kids are more worried about how your hair looks, what name brand clothes you have on, and also what kind of shoes are on your feet. These kids are worried about all the wrong things. Instead of worrying about their peer’s attire they should be into their books. Worrying about all the wrong things can be distracting. When ones focus is on something other than what’s important can cause sidetracking. "We are under no illusions that it's a silver bullet that is going to make kids smarter," school board President Pedro A. Ramos said last week. "We do think it will improve school climate. It removes a lot of anxiety and stress from lives of our students and parents," (Johnston). To understand why this is an issue, let us look at the problem, why the problem is significant, whom the problem affects, why others’ attempts have failed, and how I propose to solve the problem. This is an everlasting debate that whether school uniforms should be worn or casual clothing is as good. And like most of the popular debate in the world it has no concrete answer, it totally depends on a person’s beliefs actually. For some it is a benefit for others a disadvantage. I believe public schools should require students to wear uniforms. First wearing school uniforms promotes good discipline. Second it reduces distractions. Thirdly it is a far less expensive to buy school uniforms than many other clothes.…

The debate over school uniforms has been ongoing for years throughout the United States. Those advocating for school uniforms believe that one’s individuality is not determined by the style of clothes a student wears and that uniforms will build a sense of community. They also believe that students will care more about their education if they are dressed as if they are heading off to work instead of off to play. The opposition for school uniforms feels that uniforms squelch the students’ individuality and therefore violate their First Amendment right. It is also believed by the opposition that uniforms will not stop the students from acting out in the classroom. Does requiring students to wear school uniforms improve the educational experience for the student?…

School uniforms have many disadvantages for children and families. From the time we are old enough to communicate, everyone tells us to express ourselves and be ourselves. How can we do that if we are required to wear uniforms to school? Chanel Iman once said, “[D]on’t be afraid to express yourself through fashion.” With school uniforms, kids can’t express themselves except through words and actions. Some students are shy and use their fashion sense to make friends. Also, school uniforms can be costly. Many parents send their children to school in hand-me-downs from older siblings. With uniforms, they need to buy several different uniforms for the 5-day week and as their children grow. Also…

Picture this, waking up for a normal day of school and already knowing what is going to be worn that day and the day after that. Such imagery is not so far off from reality. Speaking, of course, about spreading the idea of school uniforms from the private schools to the public school system. Former President of the United States, Bill Clinton, was very adamant about putting “discipline and learning back in our schools” in his 1996 State of the Union address, through adding a school uniform policy in public schools. Even today, school uniforms are becoming more common of an idea to be implemented in the public school system. Not only are school uniforms cost effective, they have been connected to a reduction in violence in schools, for aiding…
