Are western management concepts like HRD applicable worldwide essay

In today’s globalizing world the transformation of some local phenomena into global ones is a natural and unavoidable process. An example for such transformation is the way some management concepts from the western countries can be applied in totally different parts of the world. The applicability of management theories and practices has always been a major concern for business and scholars. The reason for this is that values and ethics are different in the different cultures and different parts of the world, so this could be a reason for management theories to have certain boundaries. However, in my opinion western-based management concepts from countries like USA and the Netherlands are widely applicable worldwide and especially to developing countries.
Most of the recently developed management concepts like for example Human Resource Development are developed in the USA and are based on the USA way of thinking and cultural characteristics. “The term "HRD" reflects an attempt in the USA to balance humanistic and economic goals in the practice of business organizations” ( Hofstede, Geert et al.: The Applicability of McGregor 's Theories in South East Asia). This balance is very hard to achieve because these two targets always collide. The achieving of humanistic goals like high employee satisfaction, employee benefits, trainings and good working conditions, as well as pleasant working climate always brings additional costs to the company, reducing the short-term profits. Nevertheless, such measures are very reasonable in the long run and are intended to make a company very successful. It is very important to find the balance between these two goals and be able to keep it. The term human resource suggests that people are seen as usable and exploited. If this concept
