Are People Really Good At Heart By Anne Frank
Anne Frank wrote, “....in spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart,” in her diary. This statement is true, people really are good at heart. Anne wrote this during the Holocaust, which is when Hitler came to power in Germany. During this time the Jews and many other groups of people (ex. Gypsies, the disabled, and some Slavic peoples) were thought of as “inferior” to the Germans. The Germans would persecute and force the Jews to work. But even though all these bad things happened, evidence from the play, diary, and movie show that people truly are good at heart.
The first reason that people really are good at heart is that the world is just going through a phase. For example, Anne states, “I think the world may be going through a phase, the way I was with Mother.” in the play. This shows us that the world goes through hard times, like a teenager. The play later states, “It’ll pass, maybe not for hundreds of years, but someday…” This quote explains that in the long run nothing is truly bad, it just sometimes seems bad. For example, www.history.com states, “A large population of Jewish and non-Jewish inmates worked in the labor camp there; though only Jews were gassed, thousands of others died of starvation or disease.” This shows us that in the concentration/labor camps Jewish and non-Jewish inmates worked for the Germans and were starving. But, in the Anne Frank play Mr. Frank Stated, “But Anne was happy in the camp…” This tells us that you can be happy in the worst of places. Mr. Frank later states, “...,she could be out… out in the sunshine and the fresh air that she loved.” This explains that there is always some good even in the worst of situations.
