Are Leaders Born or Made? - Essay
Do you believe that the greatest leaders are born, not made? Explain your answer.

Some people are natural born leaders, nature plays a role. Some people work all their life to become great leaders, nurture plays a role. They both have many things in common but the most important one is that they want to be in charge; become leaders and not followers. They all have a vision and need to have a strong belief in their leadership ability. In addition, leaders set goals that help them achieve their vision. I believe that in order to be a great leader you first have to be a great follower. Being a follower before will make it easier for a leader to empathize with their followers. Learning how to motivate people is a great leadership tool. They know they need other people to get the job accomplished. The leader is not always the most analytical person in the room, but he knows how to use other people’s strengths to get the job accomplished. A great leader has great people to people relations skills and knows how to work a room. People want to follow and work for a great leader. This means a leader has to have charisma, character, personality and be unbiased. People look up to this person and wants to be like them. What make these leaders effective is not a natural ability; it is their desire to lead people, combined with a set of learned skills that they apply as leaders. The only real ingredient in the leadership recipe that they possessed when they began leading was desire and integrity. They learned the rest of it as they go. The desire to lead was the motivational ingredient that drove them to lead; the skills they learned along the way are what allowed them to lead people. Are leaders born or made? There are many different opinions on how a person becomes a great leader. One view is that leaders are born. They are gifted with the ability to be natural role-models and have the capability to cause others to want to follow them. Another view is that there is no way a person is just born with leadership ability. Instead, people learn from others and develop leadership abilities through trial and error. The most sensible view, however, is leaders are a combination of the two, they are both born with a leadership mentality and have also learned, from other great leaders, skills which they use to become a great leader. In addition, great leaders must have the desire to want to leader others. It is not reasonable to believe that a great leader can not have both some innate abilities as well as some sound training in leadership.…

The age-old question continues to raise its ugly head: Are leaders born to lead, or are they made? Does Leadership DNA exist? We often point to one person or the other and say, “Now, he’s a leader,” without giving a lot of thought to how this person became a leader in the first place. Sometimes it is easy to simply conclude that some of us have the leadership gene and some of us do not. Those who do get to lead, while those who do not are forever assigned to the sidelines while leaders have all the fun, make all the decisions, and cover themselves in glory. This comes as rather unsettling news for those of us who fear we may get the opportunity to lead. What hope do we have that we can ever aspire to lead people, teams, companies, organizations, even our children?…

For me, both leaders are sort of born and they can also be made, it really depends on how you define leadership. Some people believe that leaders are born with the necessary qualities that make them successful as a leader. While others believe that leadership, like many other similar characteristics, can be learned and developed through life. According to the “Great man theory” leaders are born based on the principle that leaders are exceptional people, born with innate qualities are destined to lead. Vital portion of leadership are really core parts of individuality. They say that leadership is an inborn capability, but the situation is not always like that, sometimes when a person belongs to a respective and powerful family the authority is just being passed down. The dilemma with the great man theory was not all inherited leader where competent to lead. Yes, they have all the traits and qualities of being a leader potential but that doesn’t guarantee that they are going to be an effective leader. Leadership is a bequest, it’s like a talent it may be evident but perhaps it should be enhanced. Anybody can also be a leader whether you have that natural ability or not. Leaders can be made, it’s just a matter of developing one’s ability and fostering is the key. We are all born with distinctive strengths to become great leaders and they are within us. Sometimes when we are faced with predicaments that are compelling, the leader in us comes out right before you know it. With proper pragmatic training, it is possible for people to learn how to be a leader, and I believe that almost anyone could be a leader if they chose to and would willingly pay the price of being…

“Contrary to the opinion of many people, leaders are not born. Leaders are made, and they are made by effort and hard work.” By Vince T. Lombardi. I agree with this quote, I also believe that Leaders are nurtured, that the skills leaders need can be trained and gathered with hard work. This believe is very poorly shared around people, a survey where 150 respondents were questioned about their belief about leaders, majority thinks that leaders are both born and made a quarter of participants thinks that leaders are born. I can understand why people believe that leaders are born. That’s because of experience of the childhood, we explore the world and learn a lot of things in childhood. I believe that we can learn ability to lead in childhood when we play with friends. We all can remember that there were someone who always led us. That is the place where we could met leadership the first time, the question is did our character were developed in such way that we could acquire this skill to lead. Because some child is shy he always follows the directions the others give. Or that the child is framed by parents which do not allow do different set of things these are the things which blocks everyone to become a leader. It is the character and personality of person. Which can be influenced by parents in young childhood.(Bruce Avolio,1999) Another aspect which helps to share opinion that leaders are born are the characteristics of person, for example, charisma, oratory skills, they could be inborn, as Scott Shane(2010) says:” Numerous studies have revealed that genes affect a variety of leadership dimensions. Your DNA influences your attitudes toward leadership, your ability to head up a group, your…

In order to explain if leaders are born or developed, it is necessary to make a clear sense of what qualities should have a real leader or what makes a good leader. Moreover, it should be mentioned that all leaders are different because they leads in their own sphere. That’s why such historical and current leaders styles as Mother Teresa, Steve Jobs, Napoleon Bonaparte, Barrack Obama, Mahatma Gandhi is completely different. However, their way of leading a people is almost the same. They all achieved results, by having a such leadership qualities as handy knowledge, smart strategic techniques, life experience, ability to make a vision, manage a people and win their trust. Moreover, they all have a power of perceiving people of what they have to do, which means ability to use their good communication skills. Furthermore, leaders should not only direct people, but also practice it himself or herself. As an example, Napoleon Bonaparte was often doing the things during a battle that…

The age old question. Are leaders made or are they born? My belief on this – I believe that a leader is made, not born. Why do I say that? Before going further, lets be clear on one distinction – when we say a leader is made, it does not mean that someone can be taught to become a leader by attending leadership courses. While it helps, it is not enough. Warren Bennis (a leading leadership researcher) believes that one cannot be taught to become a leader but one can learn to become a leader over the years through life and work experiences, through mentors, personal reflection, etc.…

As the old saying goes, “time is money.” The amount of time that can be saved by a business is, perhaps, the biggest benefit of using a computerized inventory system. A great example of this benefit is the retail industry. In cases where a shop maintains all data manually, its manager must reconcile each sales receipt with every piece of physical inventory. Depending on the size of the establishment and how many different products are sold, this can be a daunting and time consuming task. If that same store, however, used a computerized point of sale, POS, system, the master inventory list would be updated electronically each time a sale is made. The only thing a…
