Are Heroes A Product Of The Moment?
Are heroes born heroes or are they merely a product of the moment? Some people believe that heroes are shaped by the training they undergo while some people believe that heroes simply come about in a moment of crisis. I believe that heroes are a product of the moment by taking advantage of the moment, showing true character, and not being able to plan for chaos. Heroes that are a product of the moment know how to take advantage of that moment. For example, the text about Bob Bush talks about how Bob takes advantage of the moment by going against the promise he made to his mother by taking lives while also saving lives. In the “Bob Bush” text, the author states “Mom, I'm going to the service to help people, not to kill them.” Going against this promise proves that he took advantage of the moment. As well as taking advantage of the moment, heroes of the moment also …show more content…
For instance, in the text about Malala, she shows true character by sharing what she's passionate about even though it almost killed her in the past. The text states “Despite the Taliban’s threats, Malala remains a staunch advocate for the power of education.” This evidence supports the fact that heroes of the moment show true character. As well as showing true character, heroes also stay strong even when they are unprepared for chaos. Heroes that are a product of the moment may not plan for chaos but they still stay strong. In the text by Carole Bos Rick Rescorla sacrificed his life saving thousands of others. The text states “Because of Rick Rescorla’s foresight and belief that he knew what was right, nearly every Morgan Stanley employee made it safely out of the South Tower before it collapsed….When the South Tower collapsed, Rick was still in the building. His body was never found”(Bos). Rick giving up his life to save others proves that heroes may not be prepared for chaos but they still become

Heroes are able to recover from a defeat where a normal man would stop trying and give in to his dark feelings. One example of this is, Tristan Segers he was a normal military soldier until his vehicle was blown up along with one of his legs. “After nearly two years of surgeries and rehabilitation in Texas, Segers, a handsome 28-year-old, moved back to Snohomish County last week.”(SB, Pg. 58). Over time there have been many men and women who have received the title “hero.” They likely have been named by their bravery, strength, and willingness to give up their own comfort, if not their own life, to benefit the wellbeing of others. Hero. That word has become so broad and widely used that it seems undefinable. People say that their heroes are sports stars, celebrities, or fictional characters. None of those are real heroes. Heroes are brave people who are motivated to help others, not just anybody in the spotlight.…

Heroism can only truly be defined subjectively. Every single one of us can discover courageous qualities within any individual: it all depends on which endeavors a person finds heroic. In my opinion, a hero is someone who displays bravery or self sacrifice in the face of misfortune. They are not afraid to intervene and rectify what they see is wrong, despite the situation. Challenges may be confronted along the way, but a hero will arrive stronger than before. They will finish by attempting to or fully producing a positive impact on society. My personal role model is Elizabeth Cady Stanton, a leader of the women’s rights movement during the 19th century. She is someone who manifested all of these heroic traits by combatting the sexist ideas people had during this era. Throughout the course of her life, she shattered the expectations…

Gerard Way once said, "Heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinary." In other words, one has to make themselves a hero. No one needs to be born with magnificent strength or the audacity to stand up to any bully that might come their way. Heroism is self built. To be heroic is to be passionate, to believe in the greater good, and to live without hate.…

Should we admire heroes but not celebrities ? Arthur Ashe in Worth Repeating once said , " Heroes have the urge to serve others at whatever cost . So these people can easily acquire respect . Celebrities are other group of people who can be easily known by people . Many people believe celebrities are not as good as heroes , because there are so many different kinds of celebrities and some of them are known for their bad behaviors . In my opinion , those notorious people are not real celebrities . People should admire both heroes and celebrities . The action of Nicholas James Vujicic who has a strong will is a good example that demonstrates that celebrities also deserve to gain admiration . The Witness to War: Serving a Nation oral history project focuses on telling veterans’ stories. Pairs of students interview a veteran, create a website for them, and present their veteran's story to their class. My partner, Kajsa Simon, and I interviewed Mr. Joe Souza, and through him, I learned a lot about the military as well as what makes a hero. From the Witness to War project, I learned that all veterans are heroes and that you don’t have to risk your life every day to be one. I also learned how to be a better public speaker, and this will be useful all throughout my life. This was the best project I have ever done, and it has made a lasting impact on my life. This is why selflessness is another important factor in what it means to be a hero. A hero takes action for the purpose of helping others, without hidden motives or personal agendas. Heroes are willing to forget about their own needs when faced with the needs of others. One such example of selflessness is found in the story of Victoria Soto. The schoolteacher was only 27 years old when she gave her life trying to shield her young students during the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in Connecticut. This action shows selflessness in its most pure form, completely abandoning concern for oneself in the process of helping, or in this case saving, others. While sacrificing ones life to save another’s is an extreme example of this, it can also be found in the actions of the everyday heroes that surround us. A working single mother is an example of a selfless hero that we are surrounded by in our day-to-day life. While she isn’t literally giving her life for anyone, a single mother who has to work long hours and sacrifice sleep and other wants to provide for her children is displaying selflessness and most certainly establishing herself as a hero to her children and those around her. “A hero is somebody who is selfless, who is generous in spirit, who just tries to give back as much as possible and help people. A hero to me is someone who saves people and who really deeply cares.” – Debi…
