APPLYING PROBLEM SOLVING
There are so many problems in the world today, personal as much as in society as a whole. The question is, how can we solve them? The answer is, soft skills such as critical thinking and problem solving. These are arguably the most effective weapons we have against combatting these problems. Let’s explore two examples of real-world scenarios: Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) and Gun Violence.
A recent study confirmed a direct link between tumors and Genetically Modified Organisms (Food Chem Toxicol, 2012). The scientific method was used to observe, hypothesize, experiment, and verify this conclusion, via a controlled experiment with rats over the course of two years. That’s not to say that all tumors are caused solely by GMOs, but rather that at least one of the causes for tumors have been identified. As a result of this study, many countries have banned the importing, development, and sales of GMOs, including (but not limited to) Italy, Switzerland, and New Zealand (for confirmation, search “GMO Ban” from the University of Phoenix Library). The scientific method has also been used to study the toxicity of chem trails in the air, fluoride in the water, and preservatives in food products. So why has President Obama signed into law the Monsanto Protection Act, which protects Monsanto (a large American GMO company) from federal courts? With so much evidence, one must wonder why the government is turning a blind eye (or even worse, “protecting”) these companies, at the expense of our health. Many speculate that the motive for this corruption is money, such as corporate bribery (otherwise known as “lobbying”) from big Food and Medical industries. Consider how all three organizations benefit: Food companies from the sale of their poisonous products, Medical companies from the sale of treating the poisonous effects of the food, and

Economic Issues With government regulation of genetically modified organisms in food sources and consumable products the questions remains: How does this affect the state of affairs regarding the economy? Essentially the driving force of the economic slide of GMO foods to non-GMO foods is based on new research and information that is being shared among the skeptics. It has already been clarified that GMOs help to keep foods at a reasonable cost without experiencing a great deficit in specific items. The order of operations when applied to genetically modified organisms, in specific vegetation, filters down to who the suppliers of the seeds actually are. These seed companies that the farmers use have been bought by chemical corporations that provided herbicides and pesticides for the farmers in the past.…

    Monsanto's Greed

Despite the ongoing, major clinical studies being conducted, the government put their greed before the public’s wellbeing, and granted Monsanto permission to plant genetically modified crops and seeds without the interference of the federal government. With the government stripped of their authority of enforcing GMO sales, Monsanto has broken their chains, and now has full control of the public’s food. If GMO’s are found to be harmful to the consumer’s health, because of this bill, the government will not be able stop Monsanto’s production and distribution. (International Business…

    Problem Solving Process

My problem that I have is working for an unfair boss. He tends to treat everyone different, when it’s time for a raise it's not based on that persons work or good job ethics it’s base it on whether he likes them or not. When I'm at work I see many people getting their way with certain things, but if it was me or someone else it would be a whole different story towards us. I see cell phones being used, people not clocking out for their breaks which are things that people should be getting terminated for doing. The process I use to distinguish between problems and issues is coming up with a solution to them both for example forgetting lunch is an issue, but losing my Job is a problem. The way I can tell which is the problem is because a problem impacts people it’s not something you can just get rid of the problem in my situation is threats to be terminated if I get out of line and do something the other co-workers been doing and not getting in trouble for it. The way I can tell which is the issue is actually coming up with a solution for it, by doing that I will just let things flow out and see what the outcome would come out to be. Expressing the problem would be tricky task, but I wouldn't want to feel as if I'm on the edge of losing my job so the way I would express my problem is digging really deep to find the real problem, which is feeling as if I am no longer needed at my job. Expressing the issue wouldn't be that hard because to me an issue isn't as big as a problem. Issues can easily have solutions just have to depend on the situation such as mine. The issue is that I'm being treated unfairly is not a problem because I can work around it. The difference on how I express the problem and the issue is how I come up for different solutions for them such as the problem which is threats of losing my job. The solution I would come up for the problem is actually sitting down with my boss and seeing where I stand in that workplace. The issue on the other hand, the…

    Problem Solving Process

To investigate the problem in question I will use the steps suggested in this week’s material in order to refine the problem. Step one- Working Out the Details, it will be important to ask myself questions such as, how fair is the treatment received from this co-worker? How fair is the treatment received from the supervisor and company overall? Who could I have talked to about the problem? Do I have witnesses to collaborate my story? Do I have evidence to help me support my testimony? Is there anyone else under the same situations as I am? Where can I find a company policy manual to back up the unfair treatment? Has this gotten to the point that an attorney should be involved? All of these questions are necessary in order to clarify what the problem is and advance to the next step. Step two- Finding Imperfections and Complications, on this step I will have to have cleared what the solutions is; how can the unfair treatment received from the coworker and supervisor be changed? Also how it affects others in the workplace, and how it can hurt the company. Then, step three- Making Improvements which in this type of situations it should always happen. Discrimination and bullying is not a fair way to be treated at the workplace, therefore there should be immediate improvement in the company’s policies. Also the employee should not be afraid to walk up to Human Resources and worry that they will turn you down, because in fact it is against the law, which is something that they as a company need to improve. The best solution to this problem is not running away from it, and giving up like I did in the past, I just ran away from the problem which did not solve anything, in addition there could be someone else in the same situation right now to scare to speak…
