The topic of my project is gentrification in Wicker Park and Humboldt Park. In my video I show how the remodeling of these neighborhoods causes a negative effect on those that live there. Usually development projects are meant to beautify and make neighborhoods a better place to live; though, this only causing more problems by raising nearby housing prices, and making many unable to afford their homes.…

Living so near to the city of Chicago makes it very easy for me to know about the population issues. First hand, I know that the issue with overpopulations in small northern suburbs is slightly ridiculous because of how the class sizes has grown in size making some classes harder to be in. Another issue is on the south of Chicago, though it’s better now. It is considered a mostly African American and ‘rough’ area of the city. Because of the overpopulation there are many homeless people, and a lot of crime in that area. The government has started to put up low-income only apartments for these areas to help the poverty, and have also put in cameras to help keep bi-passers safe.…

There is this big divide of class within my community where the fortunate are unwilling to adapt and create a living environment will create more local jobs and make our city a place where we all can prosper. For example, my city has built housing specifically for low income families along our public transit areas and the light rail. This light rain is crucial for my county because it connects to four different inland cities and has the ability to connect to another train system that will take you along the cities in San Diego County. Even though people may need to take a bus from the train to their job, it still allows our community more employment options. I think economic hardships would be higher if my county did not have these light rail transit options available to the community near housing that is affordable. I live more in the congested suburb area and I can understand what the documentary message. The city is trying to manage and create an infrastructure that can support and most importantly provide for the growing local community. Part of the problem is the individuals who want to live in the past are what is preventing us from making the changes to create a system that isn’t just going to work presently, but also support the growing communities as we move forward into the…

I intend to discuss the inequity for individuals and communities affected by gentrification and then discuss democracy and equality in just takings' cases. Other issues that will be explored are the government's use of eminent domain in cases where the government needs to use an individual's land for public use. Particularly, where the government desires to build public buildings or support an industry in that area. The inequities would be in the government's abuse of power in those…

It is sickening to me that my generation is so focused on the negatives of our beautiful city that they’re too naive to even educate themselves on the history of our city. I don’t care how many shooting there were in one week, or that the mall has failed. I don’t care that there’s only a handful of restaurants and no places to shop. What do I care about? I care that we were the first city to have a black mayor. I care that we have an amazing public school system that graduates 90 plus percent of their classes along with many charter and STEM academies, and other work programs to cater to today’s youth to be successful. I care that we have many locally owned business downtown trying to rebuild what the…

There are undoubtedly many factors contributing to crime but the focus should be those connected to the root of the problem. The systems in New Orleans have failed our kids and it’s up to the citizens to begin the process of taking back our streets. Crime in the city is a great concern but if we can help change poor education, job opportunities and poverty this community can be what every citizen imagine too live in. Giving children some hope instead of turning the other cheek and watching them go down the wrong path in life can help. Taking back the streets of New Orleans is no easy task but as citizens we need to get more involved in the conditions and work together with finding the most effective solution.…
