Essay Questions
DO NOT use the tab key in this section!
Briefly describe your experiences with children and/or teens in and out of the school environment.
I have always enjoyed working with children and helping them set and achieve their goals. In high school, I was a Sunday school teacher and worked with children
ages three to eight. In college, I have worked with children with disabilities and with ESL students for my TE 320 class. I also taught 2nd grade in the summer
program for Lexington public schools. Teaching 2nd grade gave me confidence to teach and prepared me for student teaching.

What are some of the motivating factors for your career choice of teaching? (family members, former teachers, etc.)
The teacher that I remember the most is my Elementary ESL teacher Mrs. Rowan. She had a great impact on me because she really showed interest in me. Not only did
she get to know me as a person, but she also got to know about my family and my culture. She made me feel important. She is one of the reasons why I chose this
career, because I believe there needs to be more teachers like her who care about the students as individuals. I want to show the same care for my students, and
I am passionate about the career I have chosen.

Briefly describe your competencies in technology.
I have grown up using computers and all kinds of technology. I am competent using Microsoft Office, Apple computers, and PC’s. I am not an expert, but I can
handle myself, and I am not afraid to learn new things. I am a fast learner, and the technological world fascinates me.

What do you feel are the most important components in a successful classroom? How do you see yourself working with students of diverse backgrounds?
One of the most important components in a successful classroom is for the teacher to be passionate about teaching. If there is no passion for this career, then
there will not be a good climate in the classroom. Another extremely important component is classroom management. If there is no classroom management, it is
impossible for students to learn. It is important to let students know what is expected from them and to give them the tools necessary to succeed.

Working with students of diverse backgrounds is something that I love to do. I love learning about different cultures and customs. As a teacher, I would make sure
I get to know my students. I would make it a task to get to know their beliefs and what background knowledge they have. I think it is very important to get know
every single student in the classroom.

List any honors, organizations, or extra-curricular activities during college and high school.
During my high school years, I was a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed it so much. During my college years, for my Teacher Education classes, I have worked with
Special education kids and have gone to different schools to help. I also do a lot of free interpreting for my Hispanic community.

List previous work experiences.
I worked as a Para educator helping the ESL students in North Platte public Schools. I also taught 2nd grade during summer camp at Lexington Public Schools.
These experiences have been probably the most important and rewarding experiences I have had. I really enjoyed them, and they made me want to teach even more.

Wal-Mart
North Platte Public Schools- Paraeducator
Lexington Public Schools- 2nd grade teacher

What do you hope to gain from your student teaching experience?
From my student teaching experience I want to gain an overview of all the aspects of teaching in a classroom. I want to learn more about classroom management,
which I believe is most important. I want to learn different strategies that teachers use in order to have well managed classes. I want to learn how to deal with
diversity in a classroom. I also want to learn strategies to increase parent involvement in their children’s education.

I understand that a copy of this information, along with a copy of my transcripts, will be sent to the appropriate school administrator where I am seeking placement, my cooperating teacher, and my university supervisor.
