How important role do Samsung and Apple play in global smartphone market?
Phone market is high developed and changeable market. For instance, in 2011 smartphones penetrated around 29% of the global market. The highest penetration was in USA, 65% In 2016 would ship around 653 million units of smartphones. Also, in 2010next companies divided the market like this: Nokia 33.1%, RIM 16.1%, Apple 15.7% Samsung 7.6%. But after a year Samsung and Apple become biggest companies in global market. Also they become biggest players who competing with each other. Both of companies have an impressive number of assortments.
The war between them started in April 2011. When Apple produced his IPhone 4S. Also Samsung produced their Galaxy S II and started to use aggressive marketing strategy. But battle between them is not only between malls and stalls, also patent infringement and copyrights. For example, Apple banned Samsung’s gadgets in Australia, Netherland and UK, etc. To retaliate Samsung filled against case for breaking the patent infringement. In total it is nine countries and 20 cases. Apple Inc is big innovator, whereas Samsung lacked it. Here I need to mention that Samsung also Apple’s biggest supplier of flash memory. This battle becomes stronger when Samsung started guerilla marketing strategy. Samsung opened stores near Apple’s one and offered Galaxy S II at AUS2$ for first 10 customers per day and after realized advertisement. In 2011 Samsung won “phone of the year” award. Also, produced 27.8 million, compared with Apple’s 17.1 million smartphones.
What is guerrilla marketing and discuss how Samsung tried to win the smartphone battle by guerrilla marketing?
Generally guerrilla marketing is low cost strategy, when you unconventional means to draw attention to your product.
