Apple Promotional Strategy
Apple Ipad’s carefully choreographed PR Campaign:
 Rumors for close to two years about an Apple tablet device.
 Little tidbits, like filings for obvious Apple-style names like iTablet, left sitting for reporters to pick up, but with no direct trace back to Apple, which increased curiosity and coverage.
 Rumors about which content companies were partnering with Apple started to arise, and such rumors are often a result of Apple’s own planting.
 The press started finding details about a meeting location Apple had set up that sounded in line with a product announcement.
 Finally the announcement came to a packed house, with an amazing amount of coverage and hype.
 There were rumors that parts shortages were going to keep Apple from releasing the product on time.
 Eventually Foxconn, Apple’s contract manufacturing partner, denied them.
 The shipping date slipped from late March to early April.
By using this whole method of mystery and scarcity Apple are creating this whole desire to have this product. The Ipad is a new product even for Apple and the feedback so far has been sort of very vague and therefore Apple have been encouraging for each store to encourage pre orders and using this whole method of anticipation of the consumer and forcing them to make a decision to either purchase now or miss out. It does seem to have worked because Apple has been selling 25,000 Apple Ipad’s per hour.
The shortage in stores was also a method of improving PR for the product, many numbers of articles were written about the Apple Ipad being sold out, the quantities sold were not all that significant but the shortage was highlighted in order to create more desire for the customers.

Retailer struggling with demand
The DSG group's 6 week exclusivity period for the iPad might be up - but that doesn't mean that you're likely to be able to buy one from any other retailer than the ones that had the tablet from

Apple has a very secretive corporate culture. Often employees will choose not to speak out about apple until they are no longer employed there. Apple goes to greater lengths than any other company in the valley to protect its creative and intellectual environment. Apple’s security policy extends to blogs, speaking engagements, and even what people talk about with spouses. Most employees get the policies and respect them as well. The New York times reported that the company’s veil of secrecy began to take shape around the release og the original Macintosh back in 1984. Employees working on secret projects at Apple have to pass through a maze of security doors, swiping their badges again and again and finally entering a numeric code to reach their offices. Once inside the top secret areas, employees are often monitored by surveillance cameras as they work. Those working on more sensitive projects are allegedly instructed to “cover up devices with black cloaks when they are working on them.” A former Apple marketing manager described the company’s “controlled leaks,” whick he said the company sometimes relies upon to gauge public reaction, confuse competitors, or encourage partners.…

It begin when the writer from Wired says that “Apple operates with a level of secrecy that makes Thomas Pynchon look like Paris Hilton”. There are pro and cons about this strategy by using obsessive secrecy. By holding the secrecy more in tight, they manage to capture the customer and the market share more. The secrecy will trigger the curiosity among the buyers and they will wait for the product as soon as the product release. Among the producer they know that the first batch of the product usually will have some problem as it is the early release batch or examination of the market response. Different from the Apple, they will make sure they product is right and functional well at the first time. Other than that, they also will have more share from this strategy and gain more profit to do future investment in…

Apple is the ultimate innovator. And you might be right. The company has reinvented itself multiple times and in the process has already transformed at least two industries personal computing and digital music. What will be the impact of the iPhone? While there are no certainties, “major” seems to be a safe bet. Apple continued innovation leadership a foregone conclusion? Not necessarily. As good as its track record has been, like every great innovator, Apple has had its share of mishaps, too. There are many keys to long-term innovation success for any company, and very few organizations manage to maintain success for extended periods of time. First, innovation leadership needs to come from the very top, across generations. “From the top” isn’t a problem at Apple obviously. But Apple will have to face the generational challenge at some point. The CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs has been in charge for virtually decades. Who are the other Apple innovation leaders? How will a future, Job-less Apple continue to innovate at the same high level? Long-term innovation leaders make sure that the entire organization is aligned to support innovation. Again, no problem for Apple right now, but it’s easy for organizations to get out of alignment, slowly, incrementally, as other goals and priorities creep in. As long as Jobs is firmly in the saddle and the product set stays limited there’s less cause to worry, but with other leadership, and as Apple acquires more partners with agendas of their own, and the product line continues to extend, the focus may soften. Finally, long-term innovators are humble. They’re always looking out and watching competitors, listening to customers, picking up on trends and finding ways to turn ideas into cash payback, which is the real test of innovation success. And…

Apple has done it again. The iPad mini is the latest Apple idea that could be in stores by November. The global popularity of the iPad has triggered Apple to make this new smaller version of the product. As we all know, every new Apple creation of the last decade has made an enormous hit. These products have changed the way we use cellphones and listen to music. Also, Apple has sparked a new way to use the worldwide web with the massive improvement of the tablet. Apple has made a name for itself that makes people deeply desire whatever they come up with. The questions that I have are: Is the success of the iPad mini inevitable, and do people buy Apple products just for the name, or because it is actually useful or entertaining?…

    Apple Prices Strategies

Apple has played this game with itself by launching products such as the iPhone at artificially high reference prices - the iPhone cost $599 when it first hit the streets - and then rapidly lowering that price. Today, a $199 iPhone seems like a steal; Apple in essence is using its first-iteration pricing as a reference to make its current products feel affordable. You may be on the fence for a $499 iPad, but if it drops to $399 by Christmas, won't you feel better?…
