Appeal: Academic Term and Manageable Course Load
Dear Dean of Student Services,

This letter is written in an attempt to appeal my academic suspension and grant me another chance to receive financial aid to allow me to continue my education towards my degree in nursing. On May 6, 2012 I faxed over my appeal to financial aid for the fall 2012 semester at Capital Community College which was denied. During the 2010- 2011 school year my grades were poor and I received a letter by mail stating that I was dismissed due to my academic progress & a low GPA. The cause is no less than my own fault, but I believe the circumstances I faced led my focus away from my education.

One reason why I feel that my academic progress went down was because I became new mom during my school semester and suffered a lot during and after my delivery due to personal reasons which effected me mentally and effected my focus towards my education. I struggled as a single parent with bills and was forced to work two jobs to maintain my bills and my household. I managed to get a part-time job to help with my expenses and was still trying to go to school, but as the bills mounted part-time work wasn't enough to keep me afloat. I had to start working full time. I tried to continue my schoolwork, but as time went on work took over my life and my education took a backseat. I didn't plan on quitting school, so I never withdrew from classes and I constantly told myself I would continue with my courses, but it never happened. Now that I have stabilized myself somewhat and have all the support to help me with my daughter that now I have hope to take on a light, manageable course load and get my education back on track.

I hope this letter can help convince you that I can and will manage myself better and keep my grades up. If granted my request to remain as student at CCC, I will commit myself to do the work consistently to prove that I am worthy of the chance you are giving me.

Thanks for your

Today I received a message in my student email about my academic progress. I was denied Financial Aid due to my poor academic performance my 2015-2016 semester at Mesa Community College. The reason for not meeting academic requirements the previous semester was because of my lack of organization with working, sports, and studying. I take full responsibility in not putting my academics before sports and work leading me to write this letter. I truly believed I could juggle working 20 hours a week as a swim instructor and also be a student-athlete for Mesa Community College while maintaining strong grades. I soon found myself struggling in classes and doing poorly on exams because I was not using my time correctly and pushing my school work to the side. In high school I worked as a swim instructor and ran cross country as I am now, I put little effort into studying and did what I had to do to get by. Those poor habits followed me into college and are now backfiring with proof through my GPA.…

The factors that contributed my poor academic performance include but are not limited to: procrastination, disorganization, and a lack of prioritization. Often, throughout the semester, I would put off major assignments until I no longer had any time left to do anything of quality. Another contributor to my performance was my lack of organization. Instead of filing my papers and assignments away neatly, they were left in no particular order or place. The last of my errors involved my lack of prioritization. Many times I chose have fun over completing important assignments. Other times, I chose to go to bed late and in turn over sleep. Recognizing these contributors will help prevent any reoccurrences of my recent performance.…

I am appealing my financial aid suspension because of difficulty completing my courses. Last semester was my third at KU. I believe that my lack of focus due to having an unannounced 4 year old daughter I just discovered in October of last year and my grandma died soon after. My past records show I have met the Satisfactory Academic Progress I just had a bad semester due to personal issues. Personal issues of this sort are very rare that’s why I feel I should be given another shot at my financial aid. I feel it’s a privilege to even have it since everyone is not able to get it. Without financial aid I would not be able finish my career of running or my educational success at The University of Kansas.…

This affected me not only academically but socially and athletically. The stress of the work isolated me from my peers and this caused them to complain to me in which I was pressured to work extra hard to complete my studies to make time for them. In addition to the weight of trying to pass and maintain a social life, I had to go to extensive hours of after school practices for my school’s water polo team. As part of the team, they relied on me to play my part and it made me feel burdened to practice harder to make up for my lack of good grades. Because of my naivety on how to balance a high school life, my anxiety was beginning to build. The next semester the pace got faster and the workload doubled. I was horrified with myself that I couldn’t catch up. I found all my classmates around me struggling as well but it felt like I got the brunt of it. It came to a point—my tipping point—when I was depressed and at that moment, I gave up. I thought, “If I can’t even pick up my grade then there’s no point in trying.” By then, it was rounding the end of the school year. My parents were breathing down my neck and treated me harshly to get my grades up but I…

I, Kourtney Brooks, am writing to you in hopes that the decision of me being ineligible for financial aid due to not maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.0 can be appealed due to extenuating circumstances. Entering into the spring semester, due to my performance in the Fall I knew there was a lot of work to be done. In the Fall, after being out of college for a few years I had to get acclimated to working and going to school full time, not to mention online schooling, which is something I hadn’t experienced before, but due to having to work to take care of myself I made the decision to try it because I know in order to truly excel in life I have to further my education. Nonetheless, I went into the spring semester a stronger student due to the mistakes in the semester that instilled the strength and…

This letter is written in an attempt to appeal my academic probation and allow me to receive financial aid so I can continue my college education. During 2007 and 2008 my grades were poor. The cause is no less than my own fault, but I believe the circumstances I faced led my focus away from my education. In the spring of 2007 my father suffered a heart attack. This event sent my world into a spiral. I continued school as best I could and helped my mother take care of my father. To help with the costs of the medical bills I took out a private student loan for much more than was needed to pay for school. I was also out of a job and living off savings and credit cards, which was a huge mistake. Beginning towards the end of 2007 my bills began to pile up and I was getting behind. I managed to get a part-time job to help pay for bills and was still trying to go to school, but as the bills mounted part-time work wasn't enough to keep me afloat. I had to start working full time. I tried to continue my schoolwork, but as time went on work took over my life and my education took a backseat. If you have lost your financial aid and need to learn how to write an appeal letter to the Financial Aid committee of your school, it is best to either ask a financial aid counselor that works in your school's financial aid office or the specific person who sent you your financial aid letter of suspension. Each school may have different requirements but the reasons for the suspension are usually about the same. Most schools already have their own appeals forms but it is also good to send them a personal letter from yourself as well as a letter from a faculty member in your area of study vouching for you that you will strive hard to fix the areas that need to be fixed in order to get your financial award reinstated. You may also have to consider getting a guaranteed approval loan or a no cosigner student loan in case your financial aid is not reinstated.…
