Apollo's Three Challenges
Once upon a time on mount Olympus, there was an argument between two very important god and goddess. Apollo, the god of music, poetry, healing, and the sun, was arguing with Artemis, the goddess of the hunt, archery, and the moon. They were both siblings of Zeus and Leto. All of the Olympian gods were gathered around them listening. They were arguing about which is more important, the moon or the sun. They decided that they had to hold a competition to see which the superior one was. The winner would be declared at the end of three challenges. The first challenge was to see who could control the ocean more, the sun god or the moon goddess. The second was to see how dedicated their worshippers were. Poseidon declared Artemis the winner of the first challenge. Zeus tasked them with a challenge for their followers. He wanted to see how many temples for worship their people could build in one week’s time. Apollo and Artemis both urged all their followers to construct many temples across the land. Apollo told them to do it in a nice way, but Artemis decided to threaten her followers to construct the temples. Artemis’ followers constructed 7 temples in one week, but Apollo’s worshippers built 9 temples. Zeus Declared Apollo the winner and the score was one to one. In the tiebreaker round, Apollo and Artemis were instructed to prove that their respective symbol was better than the others. When Artemis was called to prove why the moon was better, she decided that she wanted to show off the moons beauty so she made it a huge, bright full moon. Apollo declared that he could easily beat that, so he made the skies cloudless and made a rainbow along with the sun. All the Olympian gods determined that there was no winner and that they
