1. You read about nephritic syndrome in this lab. You know the cause is the loss of
Plasma proteins (mostly albumen) through the kidney. As the level of the blood decreases the oncotic pressure of the blood decreases. What compensatory mechanisms would come into play as the kidney would read this situation as low arterial pressure? Hint: What mechanisms come into play when the BP is low? 5 pts.

2. You read about glomerulonephritis in this lab. You know that the glomerular capillaries are damaged or destroyed in this disease. How would this type of damage contribute to the development of hypertension in the patient? 5 pts.

Glomerulonephritis can lead to nephritic syndrome, where you lose large amounts of protein in your urine. This leads to a lot of fluids and salt retained in your body, causing you to develop high blood pressure, high cholesterol and swelling throughout the body.

3. What does the specific gravity of the urinalysis test? 2 pts.

The urinalysis test is for finding out the ratio of density in the urine vs. the amount of water in the urine. This is to find out if the kidneys are functioning at normal levels or not.

4. Name two conditions that would result in a person having blood in the urine. (complete sentences) 2 pts.

Two conditions that would result for blood to be in a person urine would bladder infections. Another condition would be enlarged
