Due Date: September 16, 2013
The physical activity autobiography is a detailed description of the role of physical activity, including sport and exercise in your own personal life.
With the idea that identity is intimately tied to our personal experiences, you will write your autobiography about how play, game, sport, exercise and/or physical activity participation in general have contributed to your identity (ethnic, cultural, class, gender, sexual orientation, etc.). Think about what sport or games you played growing up, with whom did you/ do you play, and which people influenced you the most in you play. Informal games or organized sport should be included, as well as any other relevant activities. Also include information about sport heroes and other influential figures that affected the decision to play (or not to play) sports. Students should describe sporting opportunities that they were either afforded or not afforded, and speculate as to why these opportunities did or did not occur. Each person should write about what physical activity, sport, exercise, games, etc. mean in one’s life now and what it meant as a child.
You are the expert on your story, but avoid simply documenting your participation in sport, rather, pay attention to the impact both positive and negative, that your sport participation has had on your understanding of who you are and how it has helped to inform your identity and your decision to pursue a career in Kinesiology.
Regardless of whether you have ever been a “superstar,” we are interested in your thoughtful reflections on your experiences of how physical activity has informed your identity in pursuing a career in kinesiology.
Students will write a 2-3-page essay following the guidelines for written assignments as outlined in course syllabus. Students should place their name only on a cover sheet, as papers will be exchanged with other students during class time. Criteria for
