Jensen_ *Anthony Giddens - *Engelsk sociolog Giddens slår fast at den enkelte gennem livsstilsvalg, livsstilsmønstre, og livsplanlægning skaber en foreløbig sammenhæng i sin selvforståelse. Dette medfører en række vigtige træk ved selvopfattelsen og det personlige identitetsarbejde. Giddens taler her om at: Individet er ansvarligt for det personlige projekt Selvet former en livsbane fra fortid til foregrebet fremtid Refleksiviteten er en slags indøvet selvobservation Selvidentitet bliver en sammenhængende fortælling Selvrealisering skaber personlige tidszoner der kun er løst forbundet med den ydre tidsmæssige orden (her tænkes f.eks. på personer der har fjernarbejde, altså arbejder ved computeren derhjemme, og kan tilrettelægge deres arbejdstid uafhængigt af et 9-16 skema) Selvets refleksivitet omfatter en stærk kropsmæssig bevidsthed (tænk fitness kulturen) Selvrealisering er en balancegang mellem mulighed og risiko Selvrealisering omfatter den autenticitet (ægthed) at der i et livsforløb er en række overgange med tab og åbning til nye muligheder, der skal bearbejdes Selvets udviklingslinje bliver en personlig fortælling, der gradvis kommer til at udgøre et personligt orienteringssystem Det moderne menneske har ifølge Giddens de mange muligheder og er derfor henvist til at skabe sammenhængen i sit liv. Identitet som en social konstruktion Identitetsarbejdet er en personlig og fremadrettet konstruktion hvor den enkelte løbende opbygger et billede eller en fortælling om sig selv. Konstruktionen af den personlige identitet vokser ud af erfaringer fra begivenheder, hændelser, og indsatser. Disse involveringer er dog et stykke hen ad vejen også er skabt af en selv. Ikke nødvendigvis ”iscenesat”, men situationer man gik ind i – fordi de gav en mulighed for at vise, hvad man stod for, eller hvad men kunne klare. Der er tale om en
