Two Different Worlds, One Common Goal The story of Adam and Eve can relate and differ to Anthem in ways of goals, higher powers, and sins condemned. Both main characters, Adam and Equality 7-2521, go against what is expected of them by a higher power. The higher power in both stories, God and the Council, control the people and give them restrictions and punishments. Both Adam and Equality 7-2521 also have women, Eve and Liberty 5-3000 that they are with who play a major role in the decisions they make. When the rebirth happened, the Council in Anthem had to recreate a society. They had to set rules and punishments, and decide how the people were going to live. God did the same thing; he created a society, rules, and punishments. God told Adam not to eat the fruit, and when Adam did he was punished along with Eve. The Council in Anthem told Equality 7-2521 not to do anything that wasn’t permitted, but of course he did and Equality 7-2521 was put into prison. Even after Equality 7-2521 escaped, he did wrong again by showing the Council his electricity, and ended up running away to the Uncharted Forest. God and the Council both symbolize higher power, and can do whatever they want. Both are doing what they think it right, whether it really is or not. The thing is though, that the characters in both stories, know of no other life besides following their higher power. All Adam and Eve know is God, and all the citizens in Anthem know is the Council. Both societies are brain washed in a sense, that to survive they need this higher power to guide them in life.
