The authors discussed how various leadership theories have affected women in leadership. This article was interesting to me because I would like to continue excelling in my career which would eventually place me in a leadership position. This article has also described various leadership theories and how it affects men and women in leadership. According to the article, women are seen as more effective leaders because they are not aggressive and competitive among their subordinates. This is a scholarly article because at the end of the article, the authors provide their affiliations and background in the field of leadership while working as professors at the University of Ballarat in Australia.
McNae, R. (2010). Young women and the Co-construction of Leadership. Journal of Educational Administration, 48(6), 677-688. doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.1108/09578231011079548 I found this article interesting because the author conducts a study using 12 young women from a Catholic all girl’s high school and had them participate with the author in the development of a leadership program. Throughout the year that she spent with these young women, she found that there were a lot of issues that made the research chaotic but challenging. The results proved that by allowing the young women to be active in the development of the program, it allowed for a quality program to allow young women to develop and grow no matter the age into a leadership position. There are multiple footnotes in this article and over thirty references in the bibliography, which proves this is a scholarly article.

    I wasn’t born a leader. No tragic event made me open my eyes to become a leader. In actuality, my mother enrolled me into an all-female women’s empowerment leadership program without my consent. I was not insecure, my grades were superb; I was however, an active follower of the most uninfluential group of friends every parent dreads.     The aims of the literature review are to discover if gender roles are accurate and if the leaders’ gender has an effect on the management style employed. If there is a difference in style which one is more effective and what these differences may mean for the future of leadership. “Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal” Northouse (2006, p. 3).
