The essay is presented on how different novelists represented eating animals in their own short essays. One story is a depiction on the ethics of importing animals for slaughtering by presenting the functional story of Professor David Lurie. Professor Lurie forced himself to eat sheep meat just to accept another person’s cultural belief. The common way of drawing a conceptual line between human and animal is represented repeatedly.
The essay indicates humans’ behavior towards nonhuman animals. I will explain how factory farmers treat their livestock compared to non-factory farmers. I plan on bringing forth humans moral responsibilities to nonhuman animals.

    In almost every culture, one of the most cherished pass times is food. We eat to sustain or health, to celebrate, to morn, and sometimes just to do it. Yet, how often do we question were that food comes from? Most everyone purchases their meals from the grocery store or at a restaurant but have you ever wondered where that juicy steak grazed? How about how those crisp vegetables? Where were those grown? The Omnivore 's Dilemma, by Michael Pollan, analyzes the eating habits and food chains of modern America in an attempt to bring readers closer to the origin of their foods. Not only where it comes from, but where it all begins, as well as what it takes to keep all of those plants and animals in production. In part two of the Omnivore’s Dilemma: Pastoral: Grass, Pollan gives background on what all produce and livestock need to be the best it can be. As simple as it may sound, it starts with the grass.     Nibert argues about the treatment of domesticated animals on factory farms. Many campaigns, legislations, and ballots have made people switch over to a safe and friendly way of obtaining our food. This strategy called the new welfarism promotes continued oppression of domesecrated and the underlying global injustices and dangers that accompany it (Nibert 259). The welfarism reflects the historical pattern of elites consuming our “meat.” The more affluent consume our chemical free, “humanely” produced “meat,” while the majority consumes the cheap toll that the animal industrial complex profitably can produce. There is not enough land to “free range” the amount of individuals necessary for the growing, socially created need for the domesecrated animal products. All of this can cause the scarcity of water, oil, global warming, diseases, and etc (Nibert 261).     The author, Basil Johnston, is trying to portray the connection between a mythical story from the Aboriginals and the way we are destroying the environment today, from his article Modern Cannibals of the Wilds, written in 1991.     Through the use of anecdotes in the article “A Savage Life”, Suzanne Winckler effectively points out that it is important to understand where your food comes from. Winckler helps convey to readers that while butchering animals is no fun, it is necessary for the survival of omnivores. She argues that meat-eaters are out of touch with reality; instead of recognizing that an animal must be sacrificed for their meal, most consumers mindlessly devour the food on their plates – without a thought of where their food came from.     Vegetarians do not eat any meat but still consume egg and dairy products. However, the egg and dairy industry may also raise their animals in poor conditions, even organic, free-range, or “certified humane” farms. The male infant laying hens “are invariably killed as soon as they have been sexed” because they have “no commercial value” (Mason and Singer 279). Price could still arise as an issue for many because similar to the free-range and certified humane meat, these types of eggs and dairy products are also generally more expensive. “Veganism is a sure way of completely avoiding participation in the abuse of farm animals” which is what Singer believes is the only sure way of avoiding the unethical implications of eating factory farmed food (Mason 279). Singer gives compelling evidence and asserts that going vegan, despite the other alternatives, is the only sure way to avoid taking part in the abuse of animals. Since vegans do not consume any animal based products at all, they completely ensure that they are not promoting the abuse of farm animals anywhere in the production process.
