Of the many different tragedies that has effected the U.S. today, slavery would have to be the biggest one to still have effect on America today. Some say that slavery is the cause of “the racial residential separation” that is going on today, like the calling a location where majority of black live the “ghetto.” Also another effect of slavery is the schooling. Farmers in the south needed more control over their slaves and could not have them just leaving. This is where Capitalism came in and solved these southern farmers problems. Capitalism, for those who do not know, is considered a private ownership. So farmers now owned the slaves after Capitalism was created which made slavery more dominate.

Slavery may have ended over a century ago, but it has caused even today’s society to separate because of the color of one’s skin. Many experts say that racism will not die even at the end of the 21st century. Scholars say that slavery is responsible for things such as homelessness, single-parent households, and youth violence. “Stephen Steinberg writes in the The Ethnic Myth that, ‘ghettos are nothing less than the shameful residue of slavery.’” Slavery also is the blame of African Americans for losing their “tribal affiliated” cultures and gaining the culture of slavery. Americans tend to ask themselves what they owe African Americans because of slavery and the answer is nothing.
