Anime subculture It was a chilly October afternoon and I saw something orange in the corner of my eye that would change my life forever. I found a crooked orange poster on a door window at the end of the hallway. The poster read, “All is welcome, come join us in the Anime manga club.” Anime is a subculture developed around Japanese animation. Anime subculture help people obtain a more fulfilling life with its overly friendly environment; which allows all types of people to feel welcomed. There are many branches of anime culture to explore from the fans that love anime and gather together to bond but there are always people that hate anime. I wanted to belong to a group that would share the same passions I had, but I was a shy person. I didn’t know how to approach anyone who liked anime because they seemed like they were hyper and eccentric. I didn’t join any clubs because I thought there was nothing more than sports clubs and weird fan clubs like Harry Potter and Lord of the Ring. September of freshman year was a lonely month in my high school experience. The October air was cool and the sky was filled with dark grey clouds. There was a bright poster that caught my eye as I wandered around the high school. The poster had these little interesting characters drawn all over. I examined the poster’s words and it read, “Come join us in the Anime manga club, All is welcomed. Come meet after school every Tuesday at 3:30 in room 103. I contemplated about going to Anime manga club, but before I knew it was standing in front of room 103. I didn’t know if I would be able to connect with anyone and I was scared of not being able to fit in. I didn’t want to play the “what if” game the rest of my life, so I gathered all my courage and opened the door. I noticed immediately that there were already people in the class room.
