Animal Farm Essay
Orwell uses Animal Farm to depict a typical corruption of “human nature” due to the gain of power. In the book the animals initial decision to overthrow the humans is justifiable. The animals were seeking a better life for themselves. However, as the book progress and the pigs take charge the situation becomes worse than it was when the humans were in charge. The pigs represent man because of their ability to take something good, and turn it into greed, and selfishness. The pigs declared themselves the leaders of Animal Farm because they claim to be the smartest and most competent animals on the farm. When the rebellion first started the pigs were very reasonable in what they did, and said, but as time progressed they became more corrupt. The pigs imposed harsher labor and hours on the other animals, and cut down on there feed. The pigs reserved certain things only for themselves like apples and milk. Soon the pigs started killing other animals and walking on two legs. The pigs are like our worlds government officials. They consume themselves with greed and crave more power. The absolute power corrupted the pigs just like it corrupts man. In the book Boxer represented the working middle class. Boxer was always trying his best to work harder for the benefit of the rest of the farm. However the animals like Boxer are also very naive in the sense that they choose to over look the discretion’s of the pigs and believed that the pigs really were good. In the end it got Boxer killed. The manipulation of words and control demonstrated by the pigs is also very similar to human use of media and propaganda. In Animal Farm,the pigs gradually twist and distort the commandments they wrote to keep the other animals clueless to what they really are doing. Every time the animals question the pigs they return to the commandments and find that it no longer says what they thought it said. The pigs use their knowledge to contort the commandments and corrupt Old Majors Ideals
