Animal Cruelty Research Paper

Animals being used for food production should be treated fairly and without cruelty. These animals deserve to live the short lives they will have happily. This is morally and ethically correct because every living organism should be treated humanely. This research paper will discuss how these animals are currently treated. This will also include how these animals should be treated according to our moral standards. These factory farms are very large in size and have extremely high rates of production. 61% of all agricultural production in the United States is coming from the largest 8% of farms in the country. One part of this waste is the billions of pounds of tainted slaughterhouse meat that the farms produce every single year they are in operation. They also produce billions of pounds of raw manure that has to be stored or disposed somewhere. A lot of times this is not done in the most environmentally friendly ways. In one case 35,000 gallons of pig waste were dumped into a Missouri creek on accident. This was a very costly accident and had a fairly large negative impact on the ecosystem in this area. This also contaminated the water table in the surrounding miles of land. The 1 billion pounds of herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides used each year also get caught in runoff and contaminate our water supply in their own ways. Added on top of that is the billions and billions of pounds of fertilizers used each year which also contaminate our water source and make our water purification process even more difficult which in turn makes it more costly. People associated with these farms have started to call them Animal Feeding Operations instead of just farms. They are doing this to make these farms sound more professional and make people believe that these animals are being treated as they should be. The largest pig slaughterhouse was opened in North Carolina. People thought this was a good idea because it will be more advanced, efficient and be more humane for the animals. One advancement is now the pigs are electronically stunned before they are slaughtered. This is to make the process as humane as possible.
