Animal Cruelty
Intro: Can you imagine having the urge to intentionally hurt or even kill your helpless little puppy? Over the years, animal abuse has increased an unbelievable amount. I believe animal rights need to be enforced to people across the world. Animals are helpless creatures that should only be making the world a better place. I will enforce my belief by explaining what animal cruelty are, animal abandonment laws, and how to report animal cruelty.

Transition: First, I am going to talk about the different types of animal cruelty. I. When people hear the two words animal cruelty, many think this just includes hitting a dog. But these two words have so many different meanings. II. Animal cruelty is broken down into two main categories: passive and active. a. Passive cruelty is explained by cases of neglect, where the crime is lack of action rather than the action itself. i. Severe animal neglect can cause incredible pain and suffering to an animal. ii. Examples of neglect are starvation, dehydration, parasite infestations, allowing a collar to grow into an animal’s skin, inadequate shelter in extreme weather conditions, and failure to seek vetinary care when an animal needs medical attention. iii. Sometimes, in cases of neglect, an investigator feels that it happens because of ignorance, and they may try to educate the pet owner. But in more severe cases, the pet is immediately taken into urgent medical care. b. Active cruelty is when a person deliberately and intentionally causes harm to an animal. iv. Usually this type of cruelty is considered signs of serious psychological problems and should be taken very seriously. v. Active cruelty can occur for many reasons, like a parent who is abusive may kill, or threaten to kill, the household pet to intimidate family members into sexual abuse. c. Kansas City News reports from April 16th 2016 describe a man dangling a white pit bull puppy by its neck over a second-floor railing outside.
