To say that there is no good in evil is to deny the very reality of evil’s existence. Black and white thinking such as the topic previously stated is what truly can hurt us the most. When you look at moral issues you must acknowledge that it is a grey spectrum, with many different viewpoints. If I told any person who has actually read East of Eden that I admired Cathy? They would think me insane and possibly give me some nasty looks, as well as cross the street when I walk past. But since you have to read this essay, I think it’s fair that I make my point. Cathy is a real go-getter, she does what she has to to make ends meet. She isn’t easily swayed, and has a strong moral foundation, whether or not it’s a good one is a moot point. Lastly, she’s not easily discouraged. Even in the face of direct adversity, she brushes herself off and keeps on trucking.…

2 this week. The prompt I have chosen is “How has a particular character changed since the beginning of the story? What is the evidence of this change, and what caused this change to happen?” I believe Bryon has changed from the beginning of the book by at first being unthoughtful and troublesome, and then by the end of the book being more mature and intelligent.…

Allie Caulfield, although not physically present, has a large impact on Holden’s life. Allie is two years younger than Holden and died from leukemia when Holden was thirteen. Holden is clearly attached to and cares deeply for Allie, as he carries around and writes a detailed composition about Allie’s “left-handed fielder's mitt” with “poems written all over the fingers”(Salinger 38). Holden remembers Allie fondly and remarks how “terrifically intelligent” he was and how he was “nicest” Caulfield family member. After Allie died, Holden “broke all the goddam windows” in the garage with his fist (Salinger 39) the night of Allie’s death, this is one of the rare cases that Holden gives insight on how Allie’s death affected him. Holden often reaches out to Allie when he is feeling alone and depressed.…

How often college students think about being succeeded in college? What is the key to success? Angela Lee Duckworth, psychology professor was interesting this question and started to do research about it. Before she was a psychology professor, Duckworth taught math in middle school and high school. In her Ted Talk she notes: “What struck me was that IQ was not the only difference between my best and my worst students. Some of my strongest performers did not have stratospheric IQ scores. Some of my smartest kids weren't doing so well. And that got me thinking. The kinds of things you need to learn in seventh grade math, sure, they're hard: ratios, decimals, the area of a parallelogram. But these concepts are not impossible, and I was firmly…

Things that teachers could do to help me have an easier time writing an essay is to not give work time in class. Honestly I will probably spend it playing computer games. While I could be doing a worksheet that shows me how to write better. Another thing that could help me is to make mini due dates. I like knowing that I am going at the right pace while I am writing. I also have a few recommendations for students who take this class next semester. The first and biggest one is to get done early. If you get done early you can spend class doing other homework or play games, without being stressed out about finishing your essay. Another tip is to use paper rater. You do a lot of writing in this class, and paper rater can make it so your essays don’t have errors without having to spend a lot of time looking for them. The last is write in the format that you are most comfortable in. I have always been taught to write in the 5 paragraph format, so I always use it if I can. I make me write my stories much faster. Knowing what other people do to pass a class can help you pass the class even if they are smarter than…

A writing process is the most important step that I learned in this class. First of all, before writing a complete essay, I need to come up with the pre-writing which consists of free writing and brainstorming. I found this step essential because free writing helps me find as many supports and examples as possible and brainstorming allows me to organize and strengthen the structure of the essay. Moreover, writing everything related to the topic during prewriting steps helps me find more supporting details to put into the next step. I then use the step of brainstorming to map main ideas for an essay’s body…
