Andy Warhol Analysis
Andy Warhol being one of the biggest influences in my work made him the obvious choice for this assignment. I see Warhol 's influence on the world we live in everyday and strongly believe he helped in creating the pop culture obsession in America.
Andy went from rags to riches and defines the American dream. His work has inspired many and continues to be recognized by people throughout the world. Born August 6, 1928 to Andrej and Julia Warhola, Andy was the youngest of three brothers. Andy 's father emigrated from Mikova, Czechoslovakia in 1913. Eight years later Julia joined Andrej in Pittsburgh where he had found work in construction. The following year, 1922, Paul Warhola was born. Then in 1925 came John. Andy 's older brothers both grew up as typical American boys and followed in their father 's footsteps. (Koestenbaum 20) In 1942 when Andy was all of thirteen years old, his father died. Before Andrej 's death he made the decision to put his saved money towards Andy 's education. From early childhood Andy demonstrated artistic skill. Andy would sketch and color in books that his mother bought for him. He copied many of the images he saw in comic books. These sketches foreshadow Warhol 's career and the work he would go on to do. Andy decided to attend Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, PA. There, he majored in pictorial design. However, he flunked out after only one year due to his lacking English skills. Warhol 's life and work would later be summed up by the fact that he had such trouble with words. Andy was a visual person from day one. He went most of his life without writing anything down, including his signature, which was often signed by apprentices. Andy managed to get back into school after winning art awards. (Rodley) Andy graduated from Carnegie in 1949 and decided to move to New York. This is when Andy dropped the "a" from Warhola and began going by Warhol. Andy moved to New York with fellow

Andy Warhol, was the creative mind that created pop art. Andy Warhol is a Polish American artist that lived during the twentieth century. Mr. Warhol’s paintings focused on the mass production of commercial goods, as well as under minded the supposed value of art based on the uniqueness of the work. The thing that I enjoy the most about his works is the way that he incorporates silkscreen in order to produce multiples of a single image yet still manages to make each one different and unique in its own special way. He was someone that took inspiration from the people and things that surrounded him and although he was not every well received when he first started out he continued to work and became a very well-known and respected artist.…

Andy Warhol founded the art movement called pop art, and his lifestyle and work both mocked and celebrated the world’s obsession with materiality and fame. On one side, his paintings of distorted everyday items and celebrity faces could be seen as a display for what he viewed as a culture consumed with money and being famous. On the other side, his focus on consumer goods and celebrities, and his own fame and fortune, suggest a life in celebration of the aspects of American culture that his work criticized.…

It is rare for an artist to become a celebrity, but Andy Warhol experienced much more than his "fifteen minutes of fame", and became an icon of his generation. Andrew Warhola was born August Sixth, 1928, in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. He was the youngest son of Julie and Andrej Warhola, both immigrants from Czechoslovakia. In Fifth grade Andrew started attending the free Saturday classes that the Carnegie Institute taught. It is noted that even then young Andrew excelled at his art. Due to the bullying by his classmates he stayed inside a great deal, working on his art. Due to his aptitude in school, Andrew skipped two grades and was admitted into the Carnegie Institute of Technology at the young age of 16. Once in the school Andrew was admitted to the Department of Painting and Design. He studied various aspects of commercial graphic design. Warhol was involved in many artistic fields such as painting, filmmaking and photography. . He got his first break in August 1949, when Glamour Magazine wanted him to illustrate a feature entitled "Success is a Job in New York". Pittsburgh as Andrew Warhola. The leading exponent of the pop art movement, Warhol chose his imagery from the world of commonplace objects such as dollar bills, soup cans, soft-drink bottles, and soap-pad boxes. He is variously credited with attempting to ridicule and to celebrate American middle-class values by erasing the distinction between popular and high culture. Monotony and repetition became the hallmark of his multi-image, mass-produced silk-screen paintings: for many of these, such as the portraits of Marilyn Monroe and Jacqueline Kennedy, he employed newspaper photographs. He and his assistants worked out of a large New York studio dubbed the "Factory." In the mid-1960s Warhol began making films, suppressing the personal element in marathon essays on boredom. In The Chelsea Girls (1966), a seven-hour voyeuristic look into hotel rooms, he used projection techniques that constituted a startling divergence from established methods. Among his later films are Trash (1971) and L'Amour (1973). With Paul Morrissey, in 1974 Warhol also made the films Frankenstein and Dracula. In 1973, Warhol launched the magazine Interview, a publication centered upon his fascination with the cult of the celebrity. He died from complications following surgery. The Andy Warhol Museum, which exhibits many of his works, opened in Pittsburgh in 1994.…
