The Story of a Beautiful Friendship “Many works of literature deal wish close relationships.” In the novel Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, the two protagonists have a close relationship. George Milton and Lennie Small are two migrant workers who travel around Salinas Valley, California, in the 1930’s during the Great Depression. Unquestionably, George and Lennie affect each other in both positive and negative ways. George Milton and Lennie Small are the two main characters who share a strong bond throughout the novel. George Milton is a responsible man who chose to take in and care for his friend. George takes care of Lennie and treats Lennie like a brother or a son. An example of this is how he speaks to Lennie, “`Lennie!` he said sharply, “Lennie, for God, sakes don’t drink so much.”… “Lennie. You gonna be sick like you was last night.`” The way George speaks to Lennie is how a big brother or a father would speak to his son. Clearly, George cares for Lennie and doesn’t want to see him get sick. Also at times George can get very annoyed or irritated with Lennie. He shows this when he gets frustrated with Lennie George says, “Whatever we ain’t got. That’s what you want. God a ’mighty, if I was alone I could live so easy…” George says this when he gets upset with Lennie and he goes on a rant about how he could go to a cat house with his fifty bucks. Another trait about George is that he is a leader. George show that he is a leader when he needs Lennie to do something. George can instruct Lennie to defend himself against Curly, when Curly is beating Lennie. “`Get ‘im, Lennie!`……… George yelled again, “I said get him.`” In this part Curly, the bosses son, starts to beat up Lennie. Clearly George acts as a leader when he tells Lennie to protect himself. Furthermore George cares for Lennie and doesn’t want to see Lennie hurt. The other main character, Lennie, is the man George takes care of. Lennie has a

Linnie Small comes off as being mentally handicapped, and hard working, and the troublemaker. An odd pairing but one that is necessary and one that is essential to the story’s plot.…

Born on August 6, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Andy Warhol was a successful magazine and ad illustrator who became a leading artist of the 1960s Pop art movements. Andy Warhol's parents were Slovakian immigrants. His father, Ondrej Warhola, was a construction worker, while his mother, Julia Warhola, was an embroiderer. The family lived at 55 Beleen Street and later at 3252 Dawson Street in the Oakland neighbourhood of Pittsburgh. They were devout Byzantine Catholics and attended St. John Chrysostom Byzantine Catholic Church, and maintained much of their Slovakian culture and heritage while living in one of Pittsburgh's Eastern European ethnic enclaves. Andy Warhol had two older brothers - Pavol (Paul), the oldest, was born before the family emigrated; Ja’n was born in Pittsburgh. At the age of 8, Warhol contracted Chorea—also known as St. Vitus's dance—a rare and sometimes fatal disease of the nervous system that left him bedridden for several months. It was during these months, while Warhol was sick in bed, that his mother, herself a skilful artist, gave him his first drawing lessons. Drawing soon became Warhol's favourite childhood pastime. He was also an avid fan of the movies, and when his mother bought him a camera at the age of 9 he took up photography as well, developing film in a makeshift darkroom he set up in their basement. In 1942, at the age of 14, Warhol again suffered a tragedy when his father passed away from a jaundiced liver. Warhol was so upset that he could not attend his father's funeral, and he hid under his bed throughout the wake. Warhol's father had recognized his son's artistic talents, and in his will he dictated that his life savings go toward Warhol's college education. Marilyn Monroe is Andy Warhol’s favourite star. Warhol attended Holmes Elementary school and took the free art classes offered at the Carnegie Institute (now the Carnegie Museum of Art) in Pittsburgh. Warhol began at Schenley High School,…
