Andrew Lloyd Webber
My favorite composer is Andrew Lloyd Webber. He has written music for The Likes of Us, Cats, Phantom of The Opera, The Sound of Music, and more. This year he will write music for The Wizard of Oz. he was born on March 22, 1948 in Kensington, London, England. He been married twice and divorced them, but now he is happily married with 5 children. He has composed 13 musicals! He started writing songs when he was very young. He is not just a composer he is also a panelist, a businessman, a songwriter, and a theatre director. He has won many awards for his work, including Academy Awards, Golden globes, Grammys, Tonys, and Oliviers. Many people know him for writing the music for The Lion King. He is one of the only famous composers still around today.
He stared writing his own music at the age of 9. He also put on productions with his aunt in his toy theatre that he built. By age 15, he had composed the music for a book called Old Opossum’s Book of Practical Cats.
Webber was a Queen’s Scholar at Westminster School. He also studied history briefly at Magdalene Collage in Oxford, England. He graduated from the Royal College of Music where he pursued his interest in musical theatre.
When he was just 17 he collaborated with lyricist, Tim Rice, in which they wrote a Broadway type musical, called The Likes of Us. This musical was not preformed until 2005. They also wrote a number of individual pop songs that were recorded as singles for record labels. A selection of these songs have been released on a 5 CD set.
When he was 20 he was commissioned along with Rice to write a piece for the Colet Court Preparatory School which resulted in the musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, a humorous retelling of the biblical story of Joseph.
Some of the songs that they wrote for Joseph, would be added to and updated for their 3rd collaboration called, Jesus: Superstar. Another collaboration resulted in a musical called Evita, which included the hit single, “Don’t Cry

He wrote poems to go with the drawings last minute. He met with Susan Hirshman, and was amazed when they wanted his work; not the drawings that took six months to draw, but the poems which took two hours. He was 24 at the time, and the poems appeared in his first book, A Gopher in the Garden and Other Animal Poems, in 1967. Hirshman told him he was a natural poet, published his book, and remained his editor until she retired 37 years later.[5]…

People, often composers and writers, helped shape the theater into what it is today. One of the most notable “helpers” of the theater was Richard Rodgers (1902-1979) and Lorenz Hart (1895-1943). The duo wrote some of the most loved musicals of the Twentieth Century, such as Babes in Arms (1937). Unfortunately in 1943, Lorenz Hart passed away, but this didn’t stop Richard Rodgers from continuing on his path of theater. Teaming up with Oscar Hammerstein the Second, the new and improved work partners created even more beloved musicals, including Oklahoma! (1943) and The Sound of Music (1959). Most of the musicals produced by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein (the Second) were based on higher and more sophisticated literature. Oklahoma! was based on Lynn Rigg’s Green Grow the Lilacs, and The Sound of Music was based upon the memoir of Baroness Maria von Trapp.…

Richard Georg Strauss was born in Munich, Germany on June 11, 1864. He was an accomplished conductor and composer who began composing in the late Romantic era. Richard Strauss received his musical education from his father, Franz, who was also an accomplished musician and composer. Franz played several instruments but primarily the French horn. Richard wrote his first music at the age of six. As a child he attended Munich Court Orchestra rehearsals and also got private lessons from the assistant conductor there. At the age of ten Richard Strauss heard his first opera by Richard Wagner, who was also a German Composer, among other things, and was known for his operas. Strauss was very intrigued with his works which were considered to be progressive and Strauss’s father, who was a very conservative man, forbade him to study it, although it would eventually influence Strauss and his works. At the age of eighteen he went to Munich University and studied Philosophy and Art History, but oddly enough not music. He only stayed there for one year before going to Berlin. While in Berlin he became the assistant conductor to Hans von Bulow. Strauss learned to conduct just by watching Bulow in rehearsals. When Bulow resigned in 1885 from the Meiningen Orchestra he made Strauss the conductor.…

He was studying to be a professional jazz pianist and had been learning to do so since he was little and always had a knack for putting a twist traditional music by re-writing some of the sections. One day in his senior year he was pulled aside during class by his teacher. He started to both scold and commend his talent for creating a twist in the music he played. John was told that if he became a professional pianist he would have to stop doing this and play what is written. John decided that if he couldn’t do what he loved while doing another thing he loved he would have to choose between the two. After weeks of metacognition he finally reached a decision, he would graduate high school, go to a musical arts college, and major in composing and practice his songwriting all through college (Biography.com)…
