No one can argue the fact that we have many young soldiers who may have thought the military was the way to go in regards to their future, and then after all they see come home mentally messed up at the age of 21. I keep repeating myself, but the military and government need to fix this soon before it gets out of control to the point our entire military falls apart. There eventually will also be less people enlisting because of the realization of the mental instability they are left with after they come home with no…
If the sSoldiers who initially joined only did an initial tour and went back to the private sector there was a constant revolving door at the initial entry training locations (IET). This createds a high demand for training allocations and increaseds the training budget significantly. Initial entry training can ranged anywhere from 3 months to a year to complete, depending on the occupational specialty of the sSoldier. So if a sSoldier iwas in one of the longer schools he could spend less than a year with his unit. This didoes not allow for strong unit cohesion but. more importantly to policy makers, cost a lot of money. Finding the appropriate solution that would allow the all-volunteer force to draw a larger and better educated population of sSoldiers and retain them would eventually reduce both personnel and training costs. Drawing a better educated group of recruits would help reduce training costs because many sSoldiers would make it half way through the initial entry training before failing out. Every day they were at training was a waste out of limited funds and training seat allocations. Representative McCloskey elaborated on the caliber of Ssoldiers serving in the military by reading an article out of a May 1979 issue of Stars and Stripes:. “450 Soldiers were tested in West Germany, only 7 out of 450 could read, write, and compute at the ninth grade level. This is the army that will have to take on new technical systems. If our troops are stationed at the Brandenburg Gate, or if they are guarding an embassy in Islamabad, they need to have judgment, coolness under fire, good common sense. We do not have that Army today.”14 The chart below shows how scores that score in the top categories I through IIIA pass job performance test while those in IIIB and IV fail the same…

Colonel Graff also says, “I won’t lie now, either. My job isn’t to be friends. My job is to produce the best soldiers in the world. In the whole history of the world.”(34) Again, this shows Graff being cold hearted and wanting to focus on his sobjective, which is about creating the best soldiers in the world, at whatever cost. Furthermore, when Major Anderson express concern that they will” screw up” Ender because of the training condition they will put him through, Colonel Graff responds, by saying, “ Of course we will, we’re the wicked witch, we promise gingerbread, but we eat the little bastards alive” (10). Not only is this very callous thing to say about a six- year - old boy, this also how cold-hearted Colonel Graff is toward children in general and Ender in particular. He doesn’t even seem to show much remorse at all; in fact, he seems to think it is funny. Graff doesn’t ever question his own moral character or question his actions because he believes that he is justified in being a ruthless person because he is potentially saving the world. Graff also needs to justify what he is doing to Ender he claims that, “ This is the best for Ender, too. We’re bringing him to his full potential” (173). Colonel Graff continues not to care about what he is doing to Ender as a human being and pushes him to be a great killer like Peter, and disregarding the fact that tEnder just wants to be left alone, not hurt anyone and to just live a peaceful…
How and why does the army trick these children into doing these abhorrent tasks, specifically…
Although child soldiers have been programmed since birth, to be fair that just means they are more dangerous than anyone ever…
I believe that if I set my mind to something I can do it. Anyone can do this. Just setting your mind to something and going through with the comment to that, you can do anything. My story starts out with how I learned how to Juggle. Friday night it was 4th Friday for businesses downtown. My store which is The Red Peppermint had a juggler come to help bring in customers. We were slammed! Thanks Mr. Juggler! When he was there he asked us if we knew how to juggle. All three of us said “no”. So he took only two of us one at a time and taught Scott and I how to juggle. It was the most fun I’ve had in a long time. It’s hard at first but once you have the basics down, you can juggle three balls. I didn’t want to learn at first because I thought…
They were forced to do all these bad things and did not even get asked their opinion. Second, in the article “ Summative Essay” the author said, “ children are being forced by commanders through false promises, drugs, and things which you can not even imagine to kill innocent civilians, other children and even their own families” ("Child Soldiers- Summative Essay"). They have the worst happen to them, but still try to stay positive. Lastly, in the article “Should child soldiers be prosecuted for their crimes?” the author said, “ children are often recruiter because they can be easily be intimidated and indoctrinated” ("Should Child Soldiers Be Prosecuted for Their Crimes?". The children have to listen to the commander because they are scared of them. Children who have been forced through harsh things should be very much…
While it may be very true that most average children know their actions, what if those children were not in a ‘normal’ state of mind? Child soldiers were drugged, beat, threatened, and tricked into feeling and thinking nothing except kill, kill, kill. Not only that with all this is emotional and physical abuse, if a child is emotionally and physically abused they tend not to feel anymore, and if they cause a crime then it shouldn’t be their fault, it should be the people who turned them into that, the people who manipulated them with drugs and violence into thinking that's okay. If the UN can give amnesty to the children who have been deprived of their childhood, and jail the people who caused it. That will show the commander what happens to children who they force to fight what…
This is shown by the article “Armed and Underaged” by Jeffery Gettleman this article states, “‘They don't complain, they don't expect to be paid—and if you tell them to kill, they kill.’” This shows how kids can easily be manipulated and are good child soldiers. They will do what they are told and do what they are asked without being worried. Accordingly, this is also shown in “Armed and Underaged” by Jeffery Gettleman when he states, “They are easily manipulated, intensely loyal, fearless, and, most important, in endless supply.” This shows how the kids are manipulated and will do what they are told. They don't have to be old people to be soldiers kids are easily manipulated and will do what they are told without questioning. Moreover, ever though some people believe child soldiers are good it is wrong and should not be used. This is shown by the article “The Charge: Genocide” by Lydia Polgreen when it consequently states, “Many in the international community, including President Bush, have long denounced the slaughter as genocide.” This shows the horrors of war that are experienced by the kids and how it can negatively affect them. All the dead bodies of people being killed is going to affect their minds…
Around the world, more than 200,000 children ages 18 and below are used in combat, according to Jeffrey Gettlemen’s article Armed & Underage. Child soldiers who have been psychologically examined and rehabilitated should be granted amnesty because they are often forced to commit crimes by their commanders. These children are often forced to “kill or be killed.” If a youth tries to leave or fails to follow orders, the soldier may be killed. Child soldiers’ brains are not yet fully developed. Because of this, a child may make a decision that he/she will later regret. Instead of punishment, youths should be granted a rehabilitation program. These soldiers have experienced situations not suitable for children and need treatment. If a child can be safely reintegrated into society, that youth should be granted amnesty because child soldiers are forced to commit awful crimes.…
Topic Background: Throughout history children have been seen to have the most adaptable compatibility, especially during wartime. At an early age children can be trained to kill and do despicable things. This is because children have one barrier against these recruiters and that would be their family member. Once this barrier is gone, recruiters can easily cheery pick these children, and make them work for them and do terrible things. Now, some of the reasons why some children join these military factions could be the fact that they are doing it because of their own accord. Ex. Many teenagers lied about their age before joining the World Wars. On the other hand, there are bands of people who go out to run down places and just pick up children off the streets, so that they can train them and ship them off to fight their own wars. This could negatively affect a child’s mindset, and this is because the child was forced to do murderous or violent acts. Also, children get addicted to drugs so that they will feel better, after doing such horrendous acts, and this will ruin a child’s mindset once again.…
Who would allow your child to go to war and maybe even die there, Or kill before being able to finish their education? No one. The military also states the average enlistment is just below age 21 in 2012. That means some kids will not wish to complete their education. Also luckily joining the military is a complete…
The United States military dates back to 1775 drafting men initially to fight for their country in which conditions wasn’t the best. As years pass new technology, new weapons, and vehicles to support comes with new rules, regulations, and a vigorous decision making process for senior leaders to ponder on. Below the senior leadership are the people that make it happen, we the soldiers fighting everyday serving our country dealing with all the changes on a daily bases adapting as we go. The least thought about wondering why the loss of motivation within the units, the rate of soldiers with mental and physical disorders raising all over, and family’s being affected by the change because of the choice of not to hear the voices of the people that…
Teaching kids to become useful citizens is far from easy. Some people claim that the imposition of firm discipline in educating children proves essential while other see it as a counter-productive method. I am convinced by the latter view.…
