Sports were very important to the Ancient Greeks. They had contact and noncontact sports. Their biggest event that they had were the Olympics, because that was where they could show off their skills in the different sports. That is the first example of how the cultural contributions of ancient Greece formed the basis of western civilization, as we still do the Olympics today. We may have more games than they did, but many of the events are the same. Two of their biggest contact sports were wrestling and boxing, which they performed at the Olympics. These two sports are very important to us today too, and they are a big part of the modern world’s culture. (We also have them in our Olympics.) Firstly, the clothing that they wore is kind of like the clothes we wear today. They wore cloaks, chitons, and hats. We sometimes wear coats and ponchos that are like cloaks. Some of our dresses today are based off of the general design of a chiton, and we wear hats sometimes, too. As you can see, many of the clothing items that the Greeks wore developed into things we have today. Another way that Ancient Greek Daily Life relates to modern culture is their food that they ate. They ate three meals a day, generally with family. They ate bread, cheese, meat, fish, and soup, and they drank water, but mostly wine. They loved alcohol.
