In “To Girls Who Are Going to College” by Helen Keller, Keller uses an overarching passionate tone that shifts from reminiscent to instructive in order to strengthen college women’s confidence. Through repetition of the word “you”, Keller comes across as sentimental, almost as if she is trying to recall her own memories in the eyes of the reader. By trying to reenact her memories in the form of writing, Keller succeeds in drawing the audience together to sympathize with college women.
