Introduction Messages can be interpreted many different ways no matter who is receiving the

message and who is initially sending the messages. That’s why it is good to be able to

analyze messages so you know exactly what message is being presented to you. In this

paper I will be using the communication process to analyze three business messages

using the communication process. I will give descriptive explanations of characteristics

that would improve the messages. I will also discuss if the message and technology was

appropriate given the environment and the purpose of the message. Lastly, I will write a

business to business message that has a ABC company asking to create a working

relationship with XYZ company. I will then write an unfavorable message to reply to

ABC.

Truth, Magic and the Internet

The first message that I analyzed was Truth, Magic and the Internet. In the article

the author discussed technology and the Internet as being this magic tool that we as

humans are aware is not magic but we still pretend that it is. He then went on to talk

about email and how people interpret email messages and how email has become so

addictive that it has cause people IQs to go down by ten percent. Using the

communication process to analyze this message the purpose of this message was to

inform the audience about his concerns with the Internet and our emailing system and

how it has changed people behaviors causing people to become addicted to the internet

and by becoming addictive to this process has caused people’s IQ’s to go down. The

sender is John C. Dvorak. The receiver is whoever takes the time to read the article and I

think the message is intended for everyone in the world. The environment would be

whatever environment the reader is in when they read the message. The technology is via

internet in the form of an article. There would be no noise. The feedback would be

however the reader interpreted the message that was sent. Some characteristics that

would improve the article would be that the reader should be more compassionate toward

his audience. When I read this I kind of got offended as if he was saying if we use email a

lot or have a black berry device then we are considered stupid.

Communication, Communication, Communication

The second message that I analyzed was communication, communication,

communication. In the article the author discussed clear communication and how it is

the most important factor you need to become a great leader. The message purpose is to

inform the reader on how to use clear communication to become a great leader. The

sender is Lee Froschheiser, which is the author. The receiver of the message is the

general public or anyone who is a leader of trying to become a leader. The environment

would be in a business or school setting. The technology is via Internet in a form of an

article. They would be no noise or noise would be determined on where the person

received the message. The feedback would be depending on if the audience agreed or

disagreed with the reader. I think this message was a clear message and gave great steps

and the explanations were clear and precise to where you fully understand where the

reader is coming from. I don’t think there are any characteristics that would need to be

used in order to improve this message.

TEACHING STUDENTS THE PERSUASIVE MESSAGE THROUGH SMALL GROUP ACTIVITY

The third message that I analyzed was teaching students the persuasive message

through a small activity group. In this article the author discussed how to write a

persuasive message using these four components gain attention, build interest, reduce

resistance, and motivate action. The author broke down the article in steps on how to start

the analyze, picking activity groups and etc. The purpose of the message is to teach and

inform students how to analyze persuasive messages in a group activity. The sender of

the message would be the teacher Valerie Creelman who works at Saint Mary’s

university. The sender would be the students who were being taught this activity. The

message would be a textbook or article form. The technology that is probably used is

a slide. The environment would be a classroom setting at a university. The noise would

depend on the classroom setting the students were in. The feedback would be how the

the students interpreted the messages or questions they had about the project that was

given to them. A characteristic that can improve the message is being more creative

when given the message. This message comes off as boring and doesn’t keep my

attention. Instructors should always try to give examples that the reader can relate to, too

keep them interested in the topic they are teaching.

Business-to-Business Message

Our goals here at the Waffle shack is to make money and to make sure our customer’s

are always satisfied with the food and the service they receive. We believe that we are the

best and we want to work with nothing but the best. We would like to partner with you

Hungry smack food companies in order to create a franchise by using your food products

in our restaurant. We consider you to be the best and again like we stated in the beginning

of message we want to work with nothing but the best. We are trying to branch off into other parts of the world so we need to be able to expand our business and have a better

quality of food and variety that’s why we want to work with you. If you take us up on our

offer we would give you 20 percent of sales on top of a fee for using your food products

in our restaurant. This offer can benefit the both of our companies and make us extremely

rich. Please let us know if you are willingly to take the next step in success with the

Waffle shack.

Unfavorable reply

Thank you Waffle shack for your offer but we regret to inform you that we do not

accept your offer due to some research we did within your company. We noticed that

Waffle Shack revenues have went down tremendously and that you guys have been put

on the Harrisburg list of being one of the most horrible restaurants to dine at in 2013. We

also have noticed that every other company that partners up with you leave within a year

of being with you guys. That comes up as a red flag for us causing us to believe that there

is something that your company is failing to tell us. Rumors have it that you also filed for

bankruptcy earlier this year which leads us to believe that you will not be able to pay our

company the money you are offering us. Hungry smack has a reputation of being the best

and we would like to keep that reputation. We are sorry if you are offended by anything

that we are saying but we are just being truthful. If one day your company is able to get

back on track and in good standings with the community then by all means you can

contact us again and we can go from there but at this time we do not see our company

accepting your offer.

Conclusion

When analyzing messages you have to be sure you are able to interpret the message that is received. Sometimes a sender can send a message and a receiver can

interpret that message all wrong due to the steps in the communication process. So if

you are the reader try to get to the bottom of what the sender is really trying to tell you.

And if you are the sender make sure that your message is clear and precise on whatever

topic you are trying to discuss. Some messages are intended to be rude but not all

messages. It’s hard to distinguish the two when it’s not a face-to-face conversation.

That’s why businesses and people need to be careful when sending messages over the

internet. I have this problem when text message people some people feel that my text

messages are rude but that’s just how they are interpreted them because they is really no

way to determine a person emotion behind a text. That’s a perfect example of how things

can get misinterpreted. The more you learn how to analyze messages the less confusion

should occur in any situation with any type of message.
