Part time MBA – My first Impression
It was the Thursday morning in October when I took S-Bahn to Ostendstraße. As soon as I stepped out of the train station, I noticed the feeling of rain in the air. The sky was also dusky signaling the bad weather of the day. However, instead of complaining about the weather, my mind was fully engaged with the excitement for the day to look forward to. The day was the MBA kickoff day! The flashback appeared in my mind during the five minutes’ walk from the train station to Frankfurt School campus, remembering the thought for decision to start my business studies 10 months before. I have already solved a set of business cases for Managerial Accounting, worked and analyzed closely to understand within the group, the press release statement of the European Central Bank for Macro-economics and most important, delivered the first group presentation of Micro Economics course. There are still some more assignments and case studies to analyze before this weekend´s lectures. The last week was hectic, and so the coming weekend is. Honestly, it’s challenging and exhausting but comes with lots of fun and learning. If I could use one word to describe my experience, I would use ´captivated`. I learned that each MBA lecture has a lot to offer that can change my perspective of the thinking process. As I am coming from an engineering background, my approach to decipher a problem is based on pure technical knowhow. Now, I have started thinking in terms of business value that can be offered by solving the problem. For this, the Part time MBA program is aptly designed by Frankfurt School for working professionals. Each core subject teaches many new tools to approach an issue, and come to an optimal solution. The lecture days are held on alternate weekends, including Thursdays and Fridays. And therefore, it gives an opportunity to execute the learnings in the day to day business life during the weekdays. The course materials and business cases are also shared by the professors much in advance before the lectures. This gives the chance to the students to come prepared to the class before-hand. As quoted by Alexander Graham Bell, before anything else, preparation is the key to success. The more you are prepared the better your gain from the class. The model of classroom learning is also way different from my undergraduate studies. The major focus is the participant based learning methodology. That means, professor is not the only speaker in class, but the fellow classmates are
