Analysis of Tnb
HISTORY OF TENAGA NASIONAL BERHAD
Utilities are continually looking to find ways of increasing cash flow within their organizations. There are an existing number of electricity and water utilities in countries such as Malaysia, Oman, Seychelles, Indonesia and Turkey who have moved to systems where not only are the meter readings captured by handheld computers, but bills are also electronically issued on the door step of the customer. This enables the time taken from meter reading to the customer receiving a bill from centrally issued billing of a minimum of 24 hours for efficient billing systems, down to a matter of seconds.
Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is the world 's largest user of such a computerized system. It is because TNB operate a computerized Customer Information Billing System (CIBS) installed at a cost of US$27.0 million, for the billing of electricity supplied throughout Peninsular Malaysia. They are Malaysia 's biggest private utility company and one of the largest companies on the Kuala Lumpur stock exchange. Privatized in 1990, TNB is a vertically integrated company which generates, transmits and distributes electricity to an ever increasing base of 3.75 million customers. In addition, Malaysia is developing at a rapid rate and to ensure that this growth rate continues, the Malaysian government has put into operation Vision 2020, industrialization programmed to achieve its long term national objectives.
The Central Electricity Board (CEB) was established and came into operation on 1 September 1949. The Board was to become heir to three major projects considered by the Electricity Department following its re-establishment in April 1946 which were the Connaught Bridge Power Station, Cameron Highlands Hydroelectric Project & the development of a National Grid. CEB eventually became the owner of 34 power stations with a generation capacity of 39.88 MW, including a steam power station in Bangsar with a capacity of 26.5 MW, a hydroelectric power

Every month we can see a person standing in front of our house from Electricity board or water Board whose duty is to read the energy meter/water meter and handover the bills (electric or water) to the owner of that house . This is nothing but meter reading. According to that reading we have to pay the bills. The main drawback of this system is that person has to go area by area and he has to read the meter of every house and handover the bills. The Electricity board and Water authority has to give privileges for these people to do their duty monthly. The thing is, Government will not appoint any particular persons for this duty. The people working in these boards will go on a particular day and do their duty leaving all their pending works. Due to this, their work will be delayed and this is great loss for government. To overcome this drawback we have come up with an idea and this idea will help the government and it will save the time of the employees working in these boards.…

The system will cut costs and improve transparency to a very large extent. Any failure or inconvenience on the consumer side can be instantly detected and rectified. The electricity board server can monitor and analyze the status of each and every individual meter on the network. The server would also provide a complete billing solution for the same.…
