How much do you have to want something to a point where you would sacrifice an entire group of people to achieve your goal? Greed and westward expansion are analogous examples of this question. In the late 19th century people wanted to expand America for the better; to discover new places and find wealth from the land. John L. O’Sullivan’s On Manifest Destiny, 1839 he states “We must onward to the fulfillment of our mission... This is our high destiny.” (p2) This shared attitude of destiny and entitlement sparked Manifest Destiny’s influence on the American people.
