Analysis Of Jay Smooth's Ted Talk
As we know, nothing and no one is perfect. As humans, we all make mistakes that we are afraid to admit especially, on sensitive topics. In a Ted Talk by Jay smooth called, “How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Discussing Race,” he provides many methods to approach the topic of racism. Due to the topic being very substantial, Smooth begins with a humorous story about his encounters with strangers. He explains that after introductions are finished, he usually has to explain his ethnicity to others as that is one of their first few questions. Throughout the talk, Smooth does a great job of using analogies, and emotions, to deliver his message to his audience. Smooth’s Ted Talk is centered around how to properly inform someone that what they said was racist, and how we as humans, can improve ourselves when these conversations take place in our day to day lives. What Smooth tries to enforce is that we should try to stay on the “what you said” conversation

As we know, Ted Talks are for anyone who can present a new, surprising, and innovative idea which an audience has never heard before. That itself, gives an individual an incredible amount of credibility, and allows for that person to be seen as more creative and intelligent. Because of this, anything the person says, will always be taken seriously to an extent, no matter how ridiculous the idea may seem. In this case, Smooth portrays himself as someone who has in fact had lots of experience on this topic, and has been able to attempt many different approaches to the sensitive topic of race and prejudice. Throughout all of Smooth’s approaches, he has been able to find the best possible manner to speak upon a serious topic and address any issues clearly, and in a harmless manner. This is one of the main reasons as to why people apply Smooth’s advice in their lives and see results of better
