He is being awarded something that veterans feel dishonored about. Although Colin Kaepernick may be a good player in football, he should not be “Citizen of the Year” because he is being disrespectful, negatively impacting the professionalism of football, and political side for kneeling during the National Anthem. Many people do think kneeling, sitting, or staying in the locker room is disrespectful. Disrespectful means one shows or expresses one’s disrespect. Kaepernick says, kneeling was not to disrespect the military, however, many Americans view …show more content…
If he would have just said what he did about the police and things then this might not be such a big deal. When people do things on national television they have to know that whatever they do will be criticized and judged. Colin Kaepernick should have known something like this would cause so many people to bash him and not think of him as being a good person anymore. Citizen of the Year award should be given to someone who truly deserved it. There have been so many nice things done by other people that most people would agree with what they did that they should have won the award. People saving other people during the shootings around the world. People rescuing people and their belongings during all the recent hurricanes and other weather related happenings. People going against the police is such a popular topic right now that many people think and believe the only reason Kaepernick got that award awarded to him is because of what he said why he did what he did. So all in all if a person believes he did something great then that's that person's own feelings. And if someone does not believe what he did was acceptable then that is still their own feelings. No matter the problem, no matter the situation, and no matter the problem, everyone in this world needs to all come together on things and not get offended so

It has been argued that Colin Kaepernick kneeling while the National Anthem is playing, is absolutely ridiculous, is not showing support for love of this country, and not showing support to the veterans. In “The Perilous Fight,” Jim Brown, a NFL Hall of Famer and a civil rights activist. Told Time, “I would not do anything that has to do with respecting the flag or the national anthem. I don’t think it’s appropriate.” In other words Jim Brown would challenge the normal of standing for the Anthem, no matter the severity of the situation. For this reason opponents argue that Colin Kaepernick kneeling down is not right for him to be testing the flag; but it’s not also right for the police of America to be able to go on a killing spree and have…

Glen Clark, in his Essay “Colin Kaepernick – Hero or Schmuck?” (2016), identifies why he feels that Kaepernick’s actions are not clear, not favored by viewers, and not genuine by using quotes from Kaepernick, and writing about his own personal experiences of the matter. Clark uses nine quotes from Kaepernick to demonstrate his beliefs, afterwards he rebuffs them with logic and reasoning. Often he would structure his essay to follow a pattern that alternates between a quote from Kaepernick, logic, and then an explanation. This cycle aides in the flow of the essay so that the topics are balanced and in order. For the most part, the evidence is sufficient in proving his point, but at one point he argues with Kaepernick’s opinion on cop murderings…

The take a knee movement is not the first protest the National Anthem has seen, it is just the latest in a long history of “unpatriotic behavior.” Perhaps the most infamous protest was a result of the black power salute held by Tommie Smith and John Carlos in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, “they didn’t [take a knee]. Instead they raised a fist” (Brown). The Civil Rights movements of the 1960s and 1970s were a time of upheaval for various minority groups of American society, including the black rights movement. Holding a fist instead of placing a hand over the heart got the gold and bronze medals respectively strip from Smith and Carols, for calling attention to real problems that still exist in our country. These brave men “wore beads and a scarf to protest lynchings. And when the national anthem was played, they lowered their heads in defiance and raised their fists in a Black Power salute that rocked the world” (Brown). These acts of defiance have set a stage for other individuals to speak out again the injustice plaguing our society. The downplay of such circumstances is unpatriotic and inhumane, more so than refusing to stand during the National…

What if Tom Brady decided to take a knee during the national anthem? “He wouldn’t do that.” He quickly interjected. “But what if he did?” I asked. There was a long silence on the other end of the phone before my friend answered. “I really don’t think he would do that.” He insisted. “Me either” I countered. “but, what if he did?” after a short pause my friend answered as if I had taken all the wind out of his sails. “If Tom did that, he would be as bad as Kaep.” He said the words but, they didn’t ring true. This is coming from a man I have known all my life who I know is no racist. It’s just an unconscious bias that we all have in one way or another. The reaction to Colin Keapernick protest to the national anthem was swift and for the most…

Do athletes have the right to protest while on the clock. Last year a quarterback caught the sports community on fire. I want to thank Colin Kaepernick for teaching me what true bravery is. Before his powerful act of resistance to America, I thought heroes were the kind of guys and gals I served with in the Army. But I’ve learned that being a hero really means being willing trash your own country and thereby risk drowning in the tsunami of slobber spilling from the pie hole of every leftist dork from here to ESPN’s studios.…

Critics have bashed these players for “disrespecting the flag” and “disrespecting the military” when that is not what they are aiming to do. They want to get their message across and they feel like the best way to display it is by protesting on a national stage. Players simply want to bring awareness to the ongoing issue of police brutality towards African Americans and the racial injustice that comes along with it. Critics of the protest have also called players “un-American.” That is completely false because they are doing the most American thing anyone can do by peacefully protesting for what they believe in. They are not inflicting any harm on people. They are not raiding cities and causing disturbances, like the protesters in Charlottesville did when they rioted the streets carrying tiki torches and beating up innocent civilians while spitting out hateful pro-White rhetoric. They are just kneeling, sitting or locking arms instead of standing. The players showcased their unity to the entire country, even when their own President shows his hatred towards them by…
