VDread Scott artwork “what is the proper way to display the US flag?” In the exhibit, they place the flag the United States flag on the floor and they have a book to so people can write their opinion. Above the book, there is a picture of South Korea students burning the flag. “President Bush Sr. declared What is the Proper Way… “disgraceful” and the entire US Congress denounced this work as they passed legislation to “protect the flag.”(Dread Scott.net) Dread Scott had the courage to display his artwork the way he did. I think it was brave of him to display it in the form he did. His artwork is controversial because in order for people to write there thought they have to be willing to step on the flag.…
In this painting, Picasso forgot all known form and depictions of classic art. He used distortion of a women's form and geometric forms in an new way, which challenged the idealized representations of female beauty that was expected in paintings. It also shows the influence of African art on…
Peter Randall-Page has carved two complementary works. Created on a large scale, these intricate, organic forms are revealed in all their detail and draw our attention to the tiny fragile shapes that exist in the forest. The sculptures are placed under trees which they then reflect the balance in the Dean between deciduous and coniferous trees.…

In the article by Nancy Wexler, we see the idea that "biology is inevitably a snapshot" evolve throughout the entirety of the article in relation to leprosy as a disease in three dominant places India, Sri Lanka, and Nigeria. When reflecting on what this idea means to me, I think of a moment or milestone in biological evolution that is the current societal norm and how that "snap shot" will evolve into a different opinion or "snap shot" in the coming years with new biological advancements. This is not to say that these ideas will only be persuded by biological advancements, in fact, these "snap shots" are arguably more persuaded and formed based on a societal opinion and cultural opinion.…
The drippings are a symbol of tears, which Frederick had shed wondering about why he was left to be an orphan. This cover was also designed for the novel’s target audience, which is older children, ages 11-14. This cover is targeted towards this audience because the graphics are somewhat cartoon-styled, yet they are also gloomy. The combination of these two elements entices the focus audience. Cartoons are generally directed towards younger children; however, if you were to add a grim factor to these cartoons, it interests an older group of children. This is because, children ages 11-14 do not want to be associated with products for young infants; they want to be viewed as young adults. By adding a grim feature, they feel that this cover is not suited for younger infants. Also, parents are inclined to purchase this book, as the cover does not suggest horrific scenes or inappropriate content. Rather, the green sparkling font and the illuminated moon stand out against the rest of the gloomy cover. These two elements add the idea of magic and wonder to the…
When Mycobacterium leprae was discovered by G. Armauer Hansen in 1873, it was the first bacterium to be identified as causing disease in man. Leprosy, also called Hansen's disease, is an infectious disease that affects skin, peripheral nerves, mucous membranes, such as eyes and respiratory tract. Though slow growing, it is one of the world's most crippling diseases. The effects of leprosy are discolored patches on the skin, which are followed by numbness in the…
What makes a piece of art art? Is it the creation itself or is it a combination of elements that make a piece a good piece of art. Artist use elements to add depth and meaning to the pieces they create. Artist such as Vincent Van Gogh, Sol LeWitt, Diego Velazquez, and Edward Hopper all had pieces that they used different forms to help capture the attention of the viewer and express their true meaning with the techniques they used in their portraits.…
Every person is unique and very special in their own very unique way not everyone is perfect and not everyone is the same but we all live together in this very big world. In this essay you will be comparing and contrasting two different types of paintings. The same subject matter but different ideas of the same subject. I will be writing about The Last Supper, which was painted by Giampietrino, after Leonardo da Vinci. He used oil on canvas while painting the piece of art. The year that Giampietrino painted this picture was in 1520. Another work of art that I will be writing about will be The Last supper by Francesco Fontebasso. He painted this picture in 1762 using oil on canvas. As you can see from both types of arts, that they were both painted on oil on canvas and both have the same subject matter which is the last supper that Jesus Christ had. To both of these painting’s in person, you can go to the Royal academy of Arts in London to see the Giampietrino piece and Fontebasso’s piece is found in Museum Fund of the State Hermitage in St Petersburg.…

The line “it has plunged its fingers in the blackest of ulcer” is an excellent example of personification in this particular poem. ‘it’ refers to the bad state of the century. By plunging its fingers into the blackest of ulcer, the poem is saying that the cruel century is digging really deep into the parts where it harms most, and it hurts everyone tragically. Including ‘blackest’ in the line adds to the gloominess and sadness, because black is a very unhappy and tragic colour.…
The world has dramatically revolutionized over the past centuries. Nowadays, people have different beliefs and traditions. As a result, the world is now full of human diversity in contrast to how it was before. Back in the 18th century, countries and continents were fully segregated. It was unusual to see a person with different nationality or cultural traits in a different country in comparison to the 21st century. Thus, in today’s society we have people of different races, countries, and religions. It’s a social change that has occurred worldwide due the increase of human migration into different countries. This social change, however, has caused a negative impact on the community itself; hence, being different has become a target for criticism. Seeing such diversity in our society makes it easy for one to judge others based on their religion, their nationality, and the color of their skin; however, people should not be judged by their physical appearance, their personal…
