Analysis Of Adeline Yen Mah's Chinese Cinderella
“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” ~Albert Einstein. Adeline had many things going on in her life, but that did not stop her from fulfilling her dreams. Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah is a very depressing story. Imagine being a little girl who has a family with no faith in her. Having nobody to talk to at home. Having your best friend taken away from you. Forced to attend boarding school. Imagine being separated from a family member or being abused by your parents and siblings. These are all examples of how an innocent little girl named Adeline grew up as a child. Adeline was a very smart and intelligent girl. This story is very depressing because Adeline was never treated fairly, she was ignored

She was very different from her siblings and she had many unequal rights. She was forced to attend boarding school and was never really home to spend time with her family. “We'll find an orphanage that will take you in until you are old enough to find a job to support yourself,” ( Yen Mah pg.118 ). Nobody in Adeline's family ever included her in fun activities. She's always alone and left out. “ ‘It’s so unfair,’ Victor continued. ‘Why doesn't she get to go anywhere with us?’ ‘That's just the way it is!’ Niang exclaimed sharply.” ( Yen Mah pg.156 ). These quotes show how unfair her childhood life was. She was never treated fairly.
My whole essay shows that Adeline was forgotten and ignored, how Adeline was fearful of her stepmother Niang, and how Adeline was never treated fairly. Therefore this story was very depressing and sad. I believe that this story is to teach us that no matter what comes in our way, we have to push it aside and keep striving for our goals in life. But,for a girl who had a very complicated and frightening childhood, Adeline was a very successful young woman. You should always stay strong and positive in yourself. No matter how many tries it takes, you should never give
