Instructions: Go to the CanGo intranet found in the Report Guide tab under Course Home Use the financial statements from the most recent year to fill in the table below. You may find some formulae calling for an average, e.g., average inventory, average receivables. Because we only have the Balance sheet for one year, you can only use the one year number not an average. Assume interest expense is $0.00 Be careful of the Debt equity ratio. The review covers debt asset ratio as an example of how to calculate ratios and that is different from debt equit and that is different from the debt equity ratio so think about how you calculate the debt equity ratio using the debt asset ratio as an example. Profitability ratios measure the success a company has through its operating activities for a selected period. Two examples of profitability ratios are Return on Assets (ROA) and Gross Profit Margin. Return on assets ratio measures the amount of profit made by a company per dollar of its assets. It is calculated as Net Income /Total Assets. The Coca-Cola Company recorded net income of $9,089 and total assets of $86,174. Using the formula above their return on asset is 10.5 percent. This means for every dollar of assets they are able to generate income of 10.5 percent in profits. The Gross profit margin ratio reveals how much a company earns; taking into consideration the costs to produce goods. Gross profit is calculated as Gross Profit/Revenue. Coca-Cola recorded gross profits of $28,964 and revenues of $48,017 yielding a gross profit margin of 60.3 percent. This is compared to the industry standard to measure how well Coca-Cola control costs.…

All the three bases are used to find the return earned with respective to sales as well as investment made. When the profit is compared with sales, it is called as the net profit margin. When the profit is compared with assets, it is called as return earned on total investment and when profit is compared with stockholders’ equity, it is called as return on equity. All these are profitability ratios and help to analyze the profitability at a particular period with respect to various bases. The trend in these ratios may not always move in the same direction. For example, return on assets may increase from one period to another, but not necessarily the return on equity. A cause for this may be due to change in capital structure and mix of debt and equity.…

Horizontal Analysis - The financial statements of Competition Bikes indicates a reverse in sales between fiscal years 6 and 7 where revenues increased to 37.5% and then a decreased 16.3% between fiscal years 7 and 8. This apparent trend is an indication that the company is moving in the wrong direction as sales have decreased. Not only is sales decreasing because of the current economic situation, but customers who also sponsor professional riders are decreasing. Reduction of sponsors will decrease advertising resulting in reduced sales. The trend in sales will have ramifications through out the entire organization as is demonstrated in further review.…
