ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION OF LEADERSHIP IN THE CONTEXT OF FORMULATING BUSINESS STRATEGY

Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it. —General Dwight Eisenhower

What is leadership?

It is a process by which one person influences the thoughts, behavior, actions and attitudes of other people. Leaders set an example, they show a vision for the rest to follow, and they encourage and inspire to reach the needed goals. Leadership sets a direction, without it people would just go different ways. Leadership is ability to get other people to do something significant that they might not otherwise do. It’s energizing people toward a goal.

The traditional concept of a leader being the directing chief at the top of a hierarchy is nowadays a very incompetent way of describing real leadership.
Effective leadership does not necessarily require great technical or intellectual abilities. These attributes might help, but they are not essential.

Nowadays good leadership requires personal traits that attract people and good interpersonal, communication skills. Leadership is not about exercising authority, but serving the people, the company.

Good leaders are followed because people trust and respect them, rather than the skills they possess. Leadership involves management skills but they are more like a background, what really important for a good leader is his personal traits. Good leaders possess many qualities, like: integrity, honesty, humility, courage, commitment, sincerity, passion, confidence, wisdom, determination, compassion, sensitivity and other. These qualities are the foundation of charisma and a charismatic leader. Charisma is a very important skill, but not all charismatic people are leaders.

There is a common opinion that the business success is determined by the business strategy. The strategy is just a part of many other reasons. There are many variables that make an organization to
