An Ordinary Person Analysis
Common Magic by Bronwen Wallace and An Ordinary Person by Rabindranath Tagore disclose how everyday people and events can be remarkable and astounding. Furthermore, both poems revolve around specific individuals who can serve as proof that there can be components of mystery and excellence within everyone’s life. In Common Magic, people change through a number of human experiences, while one person is transformed through poetry in An Ordinary Person. The speaker in Common Magic discloses how an ordinary person could have some mysterious, and ultimately magical elements within themselves. The poet shows this through the use of a number of various different characters in the poem. For example, a girl “falls in love” and her “brain turns to water.” She is just a regular girl to everyone else, but being in love causes the narrator to see her as a different person. The narrator is trying to convey to the audience that today’s view of something bland or distasteful can be something phenomenal in a different world or lifetime. Even someone who everyone looks up to in amazement today can become just an “ordinary person” in the future. An ordinary individual who lives a simple life may look predictable today, but in the past every thing he said “would have been taken in greedily and still wouldn’t be enough”. For the reason being that he lived his life according to his own rules, people used to look at him as if he had an unusual character - but the world would soon reach up to his accomplishments in life. If this individual had been “resurrected, again made flesh” in a future lifetime, there would have been some sort of surprise in his eyes” after seeing how the world around had changed so much. He is just a normal person but he is viewed in a different light by all of the other people who surround
