An Individual Personality Reflection
An Individual Personality Reflection Personality is a crucial concept of attempting to understand the individual. The Merriam-Webster online dictionary lists one of the definitions of personality as, "the complex of characteristics that distinguishes an individual or a nation or group; especially : the totality of an individual 's behavioral and emotional characteristics." Personality is as unique to an individual as his or her genetic makeup and will determine how that individual will respond to different scenarios throughout life. There isn 't much variation when defining personality. To me, personality is the unique, specific set of traits and nuances that make up an individual. These traits will begin to form before birth, continuing to develop, expand, and become influenced by the environment or culture of the individual. For example, I have been classified as a leader for most of my life and have an extremely hard time not leading a group. In addition to possessing a desire to take on a leadership role, I have a few other strong defining personality features. I am extremely extroverted and outspoken in regard to presenting ideas or solutions; however, I have an equally difficult time trying to express or discuss feelings and emotions. I am also intelligent, demonstrating the ability to recognize patterns quickly, and associate the pattern with a solution. I am exceedingly logic-oriented and have a passion for analyzing just about everything. Finally, I am a meticulous organizer. Personality is difficult to describe, but nearly impossible to define in a universally acceptable way. Throughout history many definitions of personality have been proposed but none universally accepted. This is because of the reality that each individual’s definition comes with a unique spin placed upon it by that individual’s life experience, surroundings, and personal viewpoint. Personality can be described as the regular presentation of certain traits and attributes that lend cohesion and uniqueness to behavior and thought (Feist & Feist, 2009). Although there is not a single, universally accepted definition of personality,…

Personality, like most core Psychology subjects, is difficult to define. Personality is essentially the science of describing and understanding people. No two people are the same; even identical twins will tell you that they are very different to their identical counterpart. There are some who are anxious and there are those who are risk-takers. There are some who are carefree while there are those who are highly-strung and there are those who are over-confident while some are just plain shy. It is this issue of differences that are fundamental to the study and examination of personality.…

There are many characteristics that could be used to describe me. I am very outgoing, committed, action-oriented, and organized, among many other things. Sadly not all of my traits are considered positive; I can be considered high strung, stress driven, controlling, and having a strong desire to always need to impress. All of my positives are very helpful in anything that involves people, especially planning and organizing events which is something I have done many times in high school and also college. With all of these traits in mind, I agree with the psychodynamic perspective, which is a personality that is primarily unconscious (King, 2013, pg.362), I believe that our characteristics are created by our reaction to society and then certain traits stick and become a part of us without even realizing it. One trait that I significantly gained awareness to and utilized to my full advantage in my senior year of high school and still use is being action-oriented. I made connections to people easily and in team-based situations I was the one that made sure people stayed focused, while still making sure that everyone felt their opinions were still being heard. I often just assumed responsibility, and made sure all issues came to closure in a positive way, this was something that I believe that I just grew up learning and knowing because I am the oldest of seven children.…
