An Incident That Made You Believe in Fate

ID# 12120374 English Essay
Subject: An incident that made you believe in fate It was supposedly the best summer of my life. My parents finally agreed that I can drive to work although I did not have a driver’s permit. I was so excited because I had never driven a car without someone by my side. So I got in what was supposedly going to be my car and vanished in seconds before they thought about changing their minds. The few weeks after that day were smooth as I had begun to take good control of the car, and everything was running smoothly except for a small filter that I was going to change which made the car turn off on its own. With my mother always telling me to drive safe before leaving the house, I often did… until that night. I was at work on a Tuesday night and I had driven there as usual. Work was boring just like any other night that I was obligated to take orders and laugh to our customer’s boring jokes… but this was ordinary to any waiter. But when I finished my shift at nearly 12:00 am in the middle of the night, the excitement raged in flames inside of me! I wanted to drive so badly! So our boss paid us the night and I was off with my friend by my side in my car. ‘’what do you want to do now?’’ Bassam asked. ‘’let’s take a ride to the nearest minimal and get some beers” I responded. And there we went with me burning my wheels and driving like a mad man! We got there and got us some beers and we went downhill to where we were going to chill. Something got over me and I wanted to raise my adrenaline to no limits! It was a long way down and I could not bear driving as slow as a turtle so as you expect I put the pedal to the metal. Everything was going great till that corner which I will never forget till the day I die. Going approximately 80-90km/s, while driving through the corner with loud music inside the car, I lifted my foot off the fuel paddle. But what I had not realized, was that the

Paranoid that I will not pass the test I took my time to carefully scan every inch of the book. I sailed through the driver's' exam and in no time got my drivers permit, only to realize that I had 6 months until I can actually get my license. The next couple of nights was when I actually drove for the first time. My parents would only let me take out the hooptie, or the lemon as some like to call it. It was a beat up 2002 Volkswagen Jetta that had been given to us. As I hoped in the driver's' seat, my dad which is a quick tempered man quickly pointed out to adjust my seat, mirrors, and put on my seatbelt. “Get familiar with the pedals, and shifter,” my dad pointed out. I dreaded the fact that I had to learn a manual transmission car instead of an automatic like most normal people. “Ok, clutch, brake, gas,” my dad pointed out the pedals “Put your foot on the clutch and slowly apply gas while releasing it.” While sitting in the empty parking lot of Walmart, I slowly shifted the gear selector into first gear. As I was releasing the clutch I feel it grab and the car starts moving forward inch by inch until a suddenly the car jolts in place and the engine dies. “Too fast,” he exclaimed. That night I practiced getting the car to move in first gear without…

My friends and I were out riding around trying to decide if we wanted to go to Carowinds. I was driving too fast and jerking the wheel back and forth. I lost control of the car. The car ran off the edge of the road, and I hit a ditch damaging the left side of the car. The car then spun around and the right side of the car hit the ditch. The airbags popped out and hit me in the face. After we stopped spinning I asked my friends if they were ok. Fortunately, none of us got hurt. I had to call my parents and tell them that I wrecked the car. The police came and gave me a ticket and showed me at fault in the wreck. The wrecker picked up the car and took it to the body shop. The insurance adjuster looked at the car and said it was totaled. I had to wait a long time before my parents would even consider getting me another car. I had to go back to waiting for someone to pick me or asking somebody else for a ride. Although wrecking my car will always be an unpleasant memory of my first car, it taught me a valuable lesson about driving safely.…

I had a neck brace around my neck and IV’s stuck all in my arms. I started to panic, I was lost, confused and scared. My best friend was there in the ambulance trying to calm me down. But still, all I could think about was the reaction of my parents when they found out what happened. Once we got to the hospital, the paramedics took me to Emergency Care. The doctors ran many tests on me: MRI’s, CAT Scans, and X-Rays, whatever test you can name – they ran on me. As I waited for my results, the doctors came in and explained to me what happened. An intoxicated driver with a gun ran the red light and hit me in a head on collision. The driver not only totaled my mother’s car but also totaled his own car too. The good thing was that he was okay. I didn’t know what to be happier about; the fact that the other driver was fine or that the accident was not my fault. Selfish right? But I’m sure if you were me at the time, you would think the same thing.…

Our family car was a very reliable bronze Nissan Murano, this car had been part of the family for at least 5 years, it had taken us to Mcdonald’s trillions of times. However much we loved this car for it’s design, it would not save us from what was in our fates on that particular day. My mom, brother and I were on our way to one of my friend’s house and he lives approximately 15 minutes out of California, Missouri if you take the highway. We were driving approximately sixty miles per hour and we just about to turn onto my friend’s road.…

There were many preparations I had to accomplish to get my license. I first had to go to the DMV to take my written exam so I can get a permit first. After I passed the test, I had to wait 2 weeks to get my permit in the mail so I could drive with some with a license.I now had to schedule an appointment to take the 5 hour course which is required to get a license. After I completed the 5 hour course, I scheduled an appointment with the DMV to take my road test. The day to my appointment was coming up so my sister had me drive her car to practice with it. But I wasn't just driving any automatic car, I was driving a stick shift car with 6 gears. I had to drive the car around town so I could get comfortable with it until the day of my road test. As the days kept on coming and getting closer to my road test, the more nervous and scared I was.…

Turning off the ignition, I heaved a sigh of relief to unwind from the nerve-wracking experience. A thought crept its way to the front of my mind, disturbing my relaxed state; I was driving. I had dreamt of this since I was a tyke in lower school, and here I was, driving myself to school. While I would assuredly enjoy the freedom driving offered, the feeling was anti-climactic. It was not everything I had chalked it up to be. Why is it, that after so many years of dreaming, the former magic of driving had vanished? Now it was just a means of achieving a vague sense of independence. After a moment’s pause, I finally concluded that I was older. Somewhere, between here and there, I had grown up just a…

Starting the car with a bright smile on my face. Feeling absolutely confident. I released the hand brake and immediately hit the brakes in attempt to stop the car. My heartbeat began to increase as I started to think what I should do next. As the car stood in the middle of the road I visualized my dad driving the car. Taking three deep breaths I quickly released the brake again and pressed on the clutch and shifted to first. As I cruised in the neighborhood feeling proud I saw a hand in the air, as it got closer I realized it was my dad demanding me to park the car. Though my dad hammered me verbally for stealing the car while he was asleep, I had a smile on my face because that day I had learned how to drive a manual car.…

I felt unstoppable as I jumped into the drivers' seat of my Envoy. I turned the key clockwise and started the ignition, immediately putting the pedal to the medal I sped off to Brandon's house, where I would meet all my friends. After showing off my car I decided to let my friends test drive it once around the neighborhood. It wasn't as if I let them, Craig stole the keys out of my hands and raced to my car locking me out and drove down the road along with Brandon and Scott. I was the oldest in my small group of friends and was the only one with a car. My friends were still only fifteen at the time and it was illegal for them to drive without a parent. So of course we had to go somewhere; pretend that we were hot shit just because we had a car, let alone an Envoy, that was twenty eight thousand dollars and could reach high speeds in a split second. We all talked for a while and decided that we where going to drive an hour to St. Pete Beach, which always had the hottest girls and was…

We were finally ready to leave and began walking to the car, which during the walk I remembered I needed to stop and get gas. So we headed to the gas station, filled up CoCo, which was my first vehicle, and were off to the dinner. In order to get to the dinner we had to get on the I-10 to I-110. We started off at great start on the highway. Crazily, only ten minutes into the ride we faced complications. While driving in the middle lane on I-10, an eighteen wheeler truck felt the need that it had to get over from the left lane into the middle. With the position I was in I could neither get over to my right nor to my left due to other vehicles being there. There was also a vehicle behind me. The truck began veering over to the right into my lane. I began to honk my horn and slow down as much as possible without causing the car behind me to hit me. I assumed the truck would realize by my honking of the horn it just was not the best time for him to come over into the lane I was in. Unfortunately he did not, and by the time the vehicle behind had gotten over for me to slow down even more the back of the truck hit the front of my car. The truck was lower than usual and the back hit the hood of my car sending my car spinning three times thereafter smacking into the barrier on the bridge. Initially, I was frozen in my seat thinking how fast it escalated but how slow it felt as far as spinning and hitting the…

A little over a year ago I was a senior in high school, leaving school with the weekend ahead of me, ready to unwind, and enjoy the night with my friends. On my trip home my mother called me and asked if I could go out of my way to pick my sister up from school; reluctantly, I tell her that I will. Before that call my friends and I had established that I would be driving us to the senior class tailgate before the football game that night. Wanting to get to the tailgate faster, I begin to force my foot on the gas pedal a little more, without thinking about the consequences of my risk. Suddenly, I look back in my rear view mirror and see the dreaded red, blue, and white lights flashing. I look down at my speedometer and realize…

This was a fantastic day. The night before was thinking, “Wow, it’s actually happening. Tomorrow”. Then I woke up the next morning. On a friday! How much better could that have been. There was a football game later, classes went super quick, there was an assembly I was excited for as well. So the classes were short because of the assembly. I ended up getting picked up early. Right after 6th period. When i was headed to the gym. I got called down to the office. My mom got me and then we went straight to the DOL. It took a few minutes, I’d say around 30 minutes because they needed my waver from my drive instructor in drivers ed in to be able to give me my permit. I wasn’t able to get a picture on my permit because my mom didn’t get my actual birth certificate. But then the lady said to get behind the desk and sign everything. Then she printed it out and she handed it to me and we walked out with it and my mom handed me the keys. I got in the car and she did the mom thing and took a bunch of pictures. But in that moment I felt that feeling of growing up. I felt so trusted and I thought about all these huge privileges I had just earned.…

On a hot summer day in July, I was driving on the highway and I heard a loud noise coming from underneath the car. The car began to shake vigorously. I tensed my grip on the steering wheel and quickly put on my right signal. .I slowly pulled over to the right shoulder. I jumped out of the car and noticed my right front tire was flat .I started to panic being alone and not knowing how to change a flat tire. I had just passed my driver license test only six months ago and had never experienced this problem. I pulled out my cell phone and called my Dad. I explained the situation and asked if he could come help change the flat tire. He said yes that he could help but sounded angry when I told him I was in Roseville. I sat and waited in the hot sun for 45 minutes until he arrived. This whole situation could have been avoided if I knew how to change a flat tire.…

This was the scare of my life . I was cruising dirt roads in my jeep with a couple of friends, and we weren’t making very good choices that day . we were all drinking beer even though we were only 16, and I decided to try and show off for my friends and drift around a corner . Well needless to say that did not turn out very well at all. We made it around the corner and then i saw a truck coming our direction. So i tried to straighten it out before I should have and we slid out of control and hit the ditch while sliding sideways and hit a fence which caused us to start to tip over but somehow i turned the wheels just right and saved it . After we were back on all four tires we slid across the road and just barely missed the truck…

Two kids were abducted at the park. The author of this essay, Jonathan, was supposed to go to on the very same day of this horrible incident. He believes in luck, because luck is what helped him to not get abducted. He had a lot of responsibility, being the oldest sibling in his family, but this day he was allowed to be alone and have free time in this park. He still has a lot of luck to this day and he strongly believes in luck. I liked the way he told his story and it was very scary and emotional. I especially enjoyed how the mysterious and spooky tone of the essay. While I really liked the way this essay was written, I do not believe in his beliefs. I do not believe in luck; rather, I believe in skill and coincidences. Jonathan's…
