An Example Of Adversity Essay
Adversity is the resilience to face difficulties; it can appear in many different ways and affect anyone or anything. Some example of adversity has been faced by every specie to inhabit Earth whether it be the extinct Wooly Mammoth or the Cyanea Tree, or even the horrendous exploits of the African Americans. Not everything accepts the adversity set before them, but when they do a theory is brought to the life that you can grow from the experience. Horace, a well known poet, stated that “adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant”. As I was mentioning earlier, adversity especially affects plants and animals. An initial case of adversity impacting plants and animals is adaptation.

The most apparent example is the life of Frederick Douglass, in his personal narrative the struggles he faces as a slave in the 1800’s allows him to mold into a man and not just slave. In the beginning of the book, Douglass is just a slave, but as he begins to read and write you see him transform into a humble and helpful man. Without the struggle of having a master to obey and strenuous work, he most likely would of not fought for his education and became the intellectual man he is know for today.You literally “see how a slave became a man,” while reading his tales of beaing beaten and sent to evil slaveholders, but yet he still manages to help his fellow slaves and escape to a better life. He is such honorable man that he would not even tell how he escaped in the book in order to protect the chance of other slaves escaping; he also did not release the name of the masters, so they are not affected by the dishonorable deeds they did in hope of learning from their actions. No doubt Frederick Douglass’ struggles allowed him to grow into the righteous man he became. Adversity may seem like an abstract idea that only the strongest people advance from, but every difficult encounter or strenuous activity makes a person stronger. Whether it be a difficult assignment, speaking out when we normally would not, or even just working harder than the week before, everyone is able to flourish
